American boy band Backstreet Boys, known for international hits including “Quit Playing Games,” “Everyone,” and “Shape of My Heart,” is back in Manila for a one-night concert.

The Backstreet Boys members Brian Littrell, Nick Carter, A.J. McLean, and Howie Dorough will be performing at the Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City on February 27, 2009 at 8PM.

The boy band is expected to sing hits from 90s  as well as hits from their newest album, “This Is Us.”

HEY LENKA FANS—Australian singer Lenka, known for her hit singles “The Show” and “Trouble Is A Friend,” will be rocking Manila this December for a series of mall shows.

The tour entitled, “THE SHOW with LENKA Live in Manila” will be held on December 11, 2009 at SM Megamall, December 12 at SM Mall of Asia, and December 13 at SM North EDSA. The said mall tour is co-presented by MYX and 96.3 EasyRock.

Lenka will surely capture the hearts of Filipinos as she perform songs from her debut album including her newest single “Knock Knock.”

In an interview, Lenka revealed that she designed her album as a “mood-enhancer.”

“I don’t like it when people are depressed. I want to cheer them up,” she said. Lenka wastrained under Oscar winner Cate Blanchett when she started as an actress in her native Australia. She calls herself a “punk-ass art school student” and was a vocalist/keyboardist for acclaimed indie electronic/ambient outfit Decoder Ring before moving to the U.S. to pursue a solo career as a singer.

Apl de Ap in the music video of "Take Me to the Philippines"

In the Philippine Department of Tourism’s latest campaign, Tourism Secretary Ace Durano teamed up with international singer and Blacked Eyed Peas member Allan Pineda Lindo more popularly known as Apl de Ap to make the music video “Take Me to the Philippines” showcasing the beauty of the country and its people.

“In a world that’s predominantly driven by media, we are proud to produce a video that captures the essence of the country’s beauty and interprets it into a hip and dynamic music video,” Philippine Tourism secretary Ace Durano told Brink Notes Entertainment Daily.

Apl.de.Ap was also chosen to be the global ambassador of the campaign “Take Me to the Philippines.” The new campaign aims to reestablish the positioning of Philippine tourist spots as global destinations.

“Tomorrow, we’ll see the Filipino people patronizing our destinations over the tourist spots abroad. We envision Filipinos not just to know the tourist destinations, but to be proud of each destination,” Durano said.

Simon Cowell sought help from the police after Leona Lewis’ new single—a collaboration with Justin Timberlake—was leaked on the Internet. Not good for the business!

Music mogul Simon Cowell was left fuming when he found out that hackers had targeted his record company’s computers and stole Leona Lewis’ new single, “Don’t Let Me Down.” Are they using a Mac or a PC? Are they sure it wasn’t an inside job?

Cowell was considering releasing the song as the Leona’s first track from her second album, but the completed (as in the final mix!) recording has found its way on the World Wide Web.

Those who are planning to download the leaked track, be very careful! Sony BMG spin-off Syco has already released a statement after the incident saying:

“Syco are working alongside the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, the British Phonographic Industry, the police and investigators in this and they are making fast progress.

“We will certainly look to bring charges against those who are responsible. We cannot give any more details at this stage for operational reasons.”

It seems like Cowell should enforce a stricter security measures on his record company, as this is not the first time that his talents have become “prey” to music pirates. Just last month, yes, July 2009, Britain’s X Factor winner Alexandra Burke’s unfinished recordings were also leaked on the Internet.

Singing superstar Celine Dion has confirmed that she is pregnant with her second child.

The Canadian star, 41, is already mother to eight-year-old Rene Charles, her only child with husband Rene Angelil, 67.

The youngster was conceived after the couple underwent fertility treatment.
Dion and her husband are said to have employed the services of another team of fertility doctors in New York City to help the singer fulfill her dream of becoming a mother again, according to the Journal de Montreal.

A representative for the “My Heart Will Go On” hitmaker confirmed the news in a statement, insisting the singer is overjoyed to be expecting her second child.

The statement reads, “Celine and Rene are very happy. They are crazy in love over the news and they are overjoyed.”

Dion recently admitted she wanted to have another baby after she wrapped up her Taking Chances World Tour in February 2009, telling talk show host Oprah Winfrey, “We are going to give it a try after my tour. Hopefully we (can get) pregnant again.

“I have a small window of hope. But we have been so blessed already. We tried six years for Rene-Charles. We have our miracle baby.”

Angelil, Dion’s former manager, has three children from two previous marriages.

Siyempre, busy rin naman ang bata sa kanyang mga commitment dito sa Pilipinas tulad ng pagpu-promote ng kanyang album na My Insipiration under Star Records na malapit nang maging platinum record. Kumusta naman kaya ang naging concert niya sa SMX Convention Center kamakailan?

Maliban sa kanyang international album na malapit nang ilabas, eh, inaabangan din naman ng kanyang fans ang kanyang international film na Alvin and the Chipmunks. Kamakailan lang, inilabas na ang first international single ni Charice na Note to God.

Kaso, madalas kong napapansin ang mga damit at accessory ni Charice sa shows at guestings niya. Sino ba ang stylist ni Charice? Naku, mukhang kailangan na ni Charice ng bagong stylist. Kadalasan, eh, napapansin ko na parang pangmatanda ang ayos niya. ‘Yon din naman ang comment ng mga kakilala ko. ‘Wag naman sanang magalit ang fans ni Charice. Pero bata pa naman si Charice at sana ‘yung babagay sa kanyang edad ang mga kasuotan niya. Hindi ko naman sinasabing gawing Barbie doll si Charice, ‘noh! Kulang kasi ng pa-tweetums factor ang get-up niya, ‘di ba? May K naman siyang mag-pacute at magpa-tweetums.

Kaya naman sana, medyo baguhin ng kaunti ang wardrobe ni Charice at gawing mas bagay sa edad niya. Siyempre, buong mundo ang nakatutok sa bawat kilos niya. Kaya dapat bongga lagi ang get-up niya. Dapat ‘yung get-up na pang teen superstar! Ikaw, anong say mo sa get-up ni Charice?

A CLEAR Doll Domination: Pussycat Dolls Live in Manila

The popular all-female music group Pussycat Dolls have invaded once again during their one-night only concert at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds last Thursday, June 11, 2009. Space Cowboy performed before the main show that started a little past 8 in the evening.

The Manila concert was part of the group’s World Domination Tour with shows scheduled across Europe, Asia, South America, and Oceania.

Pussycat Dolls member Jessica Sutta failed to perform in the Manila show because of back injury and broken rib. She is now in the US recuperating from the injury.

The group sang hits from their album “Doll Domination,” and “Doll Domination 2.0″ including “I Hate This Part,” “Buttons,” “Stickwitu,” “Don’t Cha,” “Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny),” and “When I Grow Up!”

More than 20,000 people reportedly witnessed the Manila show.

Fil-Am Nicole Scherzinger has expressed her intentions in singing the Philippine National Anthem for world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming fight. Nothing has been finalized.

The female music group first performed in the Philippines on July 28, 2006 at the Araneta Coliseum as part of their “PCD World Tour.”

UPDATE – My sister, Dianne and I arrived at the SM Mall of Asia at around 7:00 in the evening just in time for the David Cook and David Archuleta concert. After a large cup of frozen yogurt and a couple of minutes walking, we finally arrived at the concert grounds. Although the silver section isn’t that packed with many people, the stage isn’t that visible-I believe the stage should be a little more higher.

Anyway, David Archuleta was the first to perform with the song “Touch My Hand.” David A performed around 13 songs including: “Barriers,” “A Little Not Over You,” “You Can,” “My Hands,” “Your Eyes Don’t Lie,” “To Be With You,” “Don’t Let Go,” “Waiting for Yesterday,” “Stand by Me/Beautiful Girls,” “A Thousand Miles,” “Angels,” and “Zero Gravity.” David Archuleta ended his set with “Crush,” a fireworks show followed. I just wished he sang “With You” by Chris Brown, which he sang during his American Idol stint. 

During the break, there was a bit of commotion between those people in the Gold section and the Silver section. People in the Gold section were provided with chairs but those in the Silver and Bronze section don’t have chairs. While the concert is on, people in Gold section stood on their chairs which irked the people in the Silver section for they can’t see the stage. And so, people on the Silver section started shouting, “Walang Tatayo! (No one should stand)” and “Upo! (Sit down)” But this didn’t stop the people in the Gold section to stand on their chairs.

After the break and the fireworks show, David Cook sang “The World I Know.” David Cook also performed hits including, “Heroes,” “Mr. Sensitive,” “Declaration,” “Life On The Moon,” “Always be My Baby,” “Kiss on the Neck,” “Straight Ahead,” “Make Me,” “Tell Me Tonight,” “Little Lives,” “Come Back to Me,” “Light On,” and “Permanent.”

David Cook and David Archuleta sang “A Daily AntheM” for the finale number, which David Cook dedicated to his brother.

I wonder why David Cook didn’t sing “Time of My Life.”

YouTube and Universal Music Group's "Vevo"

LOS ANGELES— Google’s video-sharing website YouTube and the Universal Music Group announced Thursday that they will launch a new premium music website.

Vevo, the soon-to-launched ad-supported website will feature professional videos and the entire music catalog of the Universal Music Group. The site will be launched in the coming months.

With the new music website, users can embed players to their social-networking pages as well as other sites. The free-to-view version will carry advertisements, including video advertisements of up to 15 seconds before the music video. The player will also include a button that will enable users to easily purchase the music digitally through the iTunes Music Store or Amazon.

“We believe that video is the best opportunity for revenue generation right now.

“The advertisers and brands are more comfortable with video as a vessel for their message and their advertising spend [sic]. Streaming audio is harder to monetize under an ad-driven model right now, said Rio Caraeff, executive vice-president of Universal’s eLabs digital business strategy unit.

Filipino singer Martin Nievera was chosen by Manny Pacquiao to sing the Philippine National Anthem in his upcoming fight with Ricky Hatton on May 2 (May 3 Philippine Time).

Pacquiao announced his pick on GMA Network’s primetime newscast, 24 ORAS.

The fight dubbed as “The Battle of East vs. West” will be happening at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

World boxing champion Pacquiao has also considered international renowned singer Lea Salonga to sing the national anthem.

During Pacquiao’s previous fights, it is standard that female singers are asked to lead the Philippine National Anthem. Karylle, Ciara Sotto, Nicole Angela Judalena, Kyla and Geneva Cruz were some of the female singers who lead the national anthem on his previous fights.

GMA Network will broadcast the May 2 Pacquiao-Hatton fight in the Philippines.

American Idol Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood was named as the Entertainer of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music, Sunday night at the 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.

In the history of ACM, Underwood would be the seventh female who took home the Entertainer of the Year award. More than half a million fans voted in the Entertainer of the Year category. “I’ve had a lot of good moments in the last four years. This one takes the cake,” she said in her acceptance speech.

“I don’t know what to say! I got nothing,” she continued.

Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, George Strait, and Keith Urban were also nominated.

Reports have been coming out for the past months that the music group, Nine Inch Nails would be having a concert in the Philippines this August 5, 2009. The group is known for its industrial rock music.

The information regarding the August 5, 2009 concert of NIN at the Araneta Coliseum was posted at the group’s official website, www.nin.com.

But, Inquirer reported on March 31, 2009 that contracts have not been signed yet.

NIN is currently doing a series of concerts in the US.

Details regarding tickets for the said concert are yet to be determined.

Nine Inch Nails is an American music group that was founded by Trent Reznor in Cleveland, Ohio, and has released eight major albums to date.

American Idol 2009 winner David Cook and Runner-up David Archuleta are set to stage a concert in Manila on May 16, 2009. The two American Idol alumni announced their upcoming concert at the Mall of Asia Open Grounds through the two separate video blogs posted on different websites.

This new development confirms the report published here in Brink Notes Entertainment Daily about Jomari Yllana producing the concert of the two Idol alumni.

“Hey guys, David Cook here of American Idol. Just want to let everybody know that David Archuleta and myself would be performing live at the Mall of Asia Open Ground on May 16th. So, see you guys there,” said Cook in his video blog posted on Youtube.

“Hello, Manila! This David Archuleta from American Idol Season 7 inviting all of you to catch David Cook and I on May 16th at the Mall of Asia Open Ground. So, hope to see all of you there. Salamat po,” said Archuleta in a separate video blog posted on YouTube as well.

However, the producers of the show are yet to release information regarding the tickets.

“Wings of the Soul H.O.P.E (Healing Of Pain and Enlightenment) Volume 2,” a compilation produced by Star Records has searched gold-record status since its release on November 2008 said Star Records Managing Director Annabel Regalado-Borja in a press conference held March 19, 2009.

The “Wings of the Soul” album is Lorna Tolentino’s project with the said recording company. The actress is busy promoting the album in different ABS-CBN TV shows. The album features ten songs about acceptance, surrendering, and moving on.

Personalities from the entertainment industry as well as close friends of the late Rudy Fernandez collaborated to make the compilation album possible. Sharon Cuneta, Tirso Cruz III, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, Sen. Bong Revilla, Philip Salvador, Bodie Cruz, Christopher de Leon, Boboy Martiz, Ricky Davao, Aga Muhlach, and Gary Valenciano all recorded a song to complete the said album. It is said that the people behind the album were chosen for a certain reason as well as the songs.

Lorna shared in an interview with ABS-CBN news that recording process of “Wings of the Soul” album was indeed a great help in the healing process.

“Sa palagay ko naman, kapag mayroon kang outlet noong dinadaanan mo, this is one way hindi ba na parang isang outlet mo na maging busy ka? At the same time, nare-remind ka na kumbaga, marami pang magagandang mangyayari sa buhay mo as long as buhay ka, although mas maganda ‘yong kapag wala ka na at kapiling mo ang Panginoon, iba din naman ‘yon,” she said.

Rudy Fernandez’s widow, Lorna is hoping that a concert for a cause be organized. The actress is currently busy filming for her upcoming ABS-CBN television series with actor Gabby Concepcion.

QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Hundreds of fans and music lovers flocked to TriNoma mall last Sunday, March 8, 2009 as The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus rocked the said mall playing hits from their latest album, “Lonely Road” including famous hits such as “Your Guardian Angel”.

“You Better Pray,” “Pen and Paper,” “Damn Regret,” “False Pretense,” “Justify,” “Waiting,” “Cat and Mouse,” “Pull Me Back,” “Your Guardian Angel,” and “Face Down” are some of the songs they played during the said mall show with fans singing along.

The band from Jacksonville, Florida has been in the Philippines since March 5, 2009 doing tours on select Ayala Malls including Alabang Town Center, Market! Market!, Glorietta and TriNoma. The TriNoma show last Sunday was the last leg of their Ayala Malls tour entitled, “Ready, Set, Rock with The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus”.
