This is a very sad day for me and for all “Ugly Betty” fans worldwide.

Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello reported that ABC has cancelled the hit television series “Ugly Betty” and that the fourth season would be its last. ABC also trimmed the plan 22 episodes of Ugly Betty’s fourth season to just 20 episodes.

I knew this was coming. But, “Ugly Betty” is one of the few US television series that I really watch. Ugly Betty would be airing it’s 13th episode next Wednesday, February 3, 2010.

I’m wondering how the writers will wrap the show in just seven episodes.

“We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell,” said ABC President Steve McPherson and Executive Producer Silvio Horta in a joint statement.

Oh, no. This is really heartbreaking. I’ll miss the Suarez and the Mode people. Where’s Gio, by the way?

Angelica has earned the right to star in one the biggest projects of ABS-CBN for the first quarter of 2010. ABS-CBN's Showtime

ABS-CBN top-rating morning show, “Showtime” has been placed on a 20-day preventive suspension after one of the show’s judges made derogatory remarks against teachers on-air, the Movie & Television Review & Classification Board (MTRCB) ordered on Monday.

In the January 7, 2010 episode of “Showtime,” actress Rosanna Roces, one of the guest judges, encouraged students who joined the talent search to ask questions from their teachers. She also described teachers as mere “repeaters.”

“Huwag kayo makukuntento sa mga itinuturo ng libro at ng teacher. Kung magtatanong kayo, hindi masama iyon. Dahil ang mga teacher, they were just repeaters. Tinuturo lang nila kung ano ang itinuro sa kanila. Hindi na nila itinuturo kung ano ang gusto malaman ng mga bata,” she said on air.

The network removed Roces from the panel of judges the day after the incident as an act of “self-regulation.” However, the MTRCB has been firm about their decision to place the show on a 20-day preventive suspension.

The network, however, is questioning the need for a preventive suspension even after Ms. Roces has been removed from the show.

“A preventive suspension is issued to stop further violations, if there were any committed, or for the interest or welfare of the public. Thus, the network questions the need for said preventive suspension when Rosanna Roces has already been removed from the program,” a statement released by the ABS-CBN Corporate Communications department said.

“Magpasikat,” a new show, will temporarily replace “Showtime.” ABS-CBN will file an appeal in court on Tuesday, while a hearing is scheduled on January 14 to let the show and its producers air their side of the story on the MTRCB decision.

On Friday, November 20, 2009, Oprah Winfrey will make an announcement that she’s giving up her popular daytime show when her contract ends in September 2011.

“We have the greatest respect for Oprah and we wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors, we do know anything she turns her hand to will be a great success,” said a spokesman for the CBS Television Studios, which distributes her show, which airs on ABC in New York.

“We look forward to working with her for the next several years, and hopefully afterwards as well.”

Representatives of Oprah Winfrey has notified TV stations airing the worldwide-syndicated TV talk show, along with other companies connected to Harpo Productions that the decision was made.

“Tomorrow, Oprah will announce live on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ that she has decided to end what is arguably one of the most popular, influential and enduring programs in television history,’” Harpo president Tim Bennett said in the letter, which told stations to share the news.

“The sun will set on the ‘Oprah’ show as its 25th season draws to a close on September 9, 2011.”

Rumors are spreading that Oprah Winfrey has partnered with Discovery Networks to launch the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), which she will program. It had been scheduled this year, and the latest buzz has it going live in 2011.

ABS-CBN, the largest television network in the Philippines launched its Christmas campaign with the theme, “Bro, Ikaw ang Star ng Pasko” on Wednesday, November 4, 2009. A lantern lighting ceremony of the “Parol ni Bro” was also held at the ABS-CBN compound, which was led by the cast of May Bukas Pa, ABS-CBN president Charo Santos-Concio, and ABS-CBN chairman and CEO Eugenio Lopez III.

In line with the launch of ABS-CBN’s Christmas campaign, the station also aired their new Christmas Station ID. The theme “Star ng Pasko” used in the new ABS-CBN Station ID was performed by Sarah Geronimo, Piolo Pascual, KC Concepcion, Billy Crawford, Erik Santos, Mark Bautista, Rachelle Ann Go, Yeng Constantino, Jed Madela, Nina, Sitti, Aiza Seguerra, Richard Poon, Duncan Ramos, and the Pinoy Dream Academy Little Dreamers.

It has been reported by one of the leading newspapers in the country, Philippine Daily Inquirer, that actress/TV Host Kris Aquino has hosted a dinner inviting a handful number of celebrities for her brother Noynoy Aquino last Sunday, October 4, 2009. Are the celebrities invited being wooed by Kris Aquino to help in her brother’s presidential campaign?

Celebrities who attended the dinner brought home a framed commemorative P5 bill, the first one signed by the late President Corazon Aquino when she assumed office in 1986.

JANET JACKSON & MADONNA CELEBRATE MICHAEL JACKSON Taylor Swift Wins “Best Female Video” While Eminem Grabs “Best Hip Hop Video”

MTV turned New York City inside out for the “2009 Video Music Awards” as the network celebrated a legend and brought together the biggest names in music, TV, film and sports. Live from Radio City Music Hall, VMA icon Madonna opened the show and introduced the emotional and heartfelt tribute to Michael Jackson. Janet Jackson was joined onstage by the most renowned choreographers in the world and Michael’s tour dancers, all of whom were influenced by the “King of Pop,” for a memorable and high energy performance. To honor her brother and his illustrious career, the dancers recreated some of his most memorable music videos including “Thriller,” “Bad,” “Smooth Criminal” and “Scream.” The celebration received a standing ovation and set the tone for the most important evening in music and pop culture.

Always controversial, British comedian Russell Brand pushed the envelope as he had fun with a slew of new stars and charmed the ladies. Aerosmith’s Joe Perry and popstar Katy Perry helped Russell kick-off his hosting duties in a big way with a light infused performance of the classic rock anthem by Queen, “We Will Rock You.”
Young country-pop superstar Taylor Swift earned “Best Female Video” for “You Belong With Me” in one of the most competitive categories of the evening, causing Kanye West to storm the stage in protest of Beyonce not winning. In a gracious act, Beyonce later called Taylor back on stage to rightfully accept her award. Beyonce did win an outstanding three moonmen including the coveted “Video of the Year” award for her viral video sensation “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).” Also landing three statues was Lady Gaga including “Best New Artist” for her hit single “Poker Face.” Green Day made a triumphant return to the VMAs by claiming three awards including “Best Rock Video” for “21 Guns.” Eminem walked away victorious in an extremely heated race for “Best Hip Hop Video” with “We Made You.”

Adding to her collection of moonmen and accepting her award via satellite while on tour, Britney Spears won “Best Pop Video” for “Womanizer.” After officially premiering at last year’s show, T.I. and Rihanna won “Best Male Video” for their multi-platinum song “Live Your Life.”

Eminem once again showcased his comedic chops teaming up with Tracy Morgan and featuring a cameo by Cyndi Lauper to present the “Best New Artist” nominees throughout the show.

Drawing on the musical energy and passion of New York City, MTV used the city as a backdrop to showcase the unprecedented and groundbreaking performances from today’s most popular artists. Making her first VMA performance a standout, Taylor Swift sang a never-before-heard version of her single “You Belong With Me.” Taylor fully incorporated all NYC has to offer by transitioning from a subway car to 6th Avenue surrounded by fans and ending her performance on top of a taxi cab.

Known for her over the top live performances and fashion forward style, Lady Gaga turned a childhood dream into a reality as she made her grand entrance into VMA history. During her unforgettable performance of “Paparazzi,” the international superstar gives her own interpretation on the price of fame which culminates with her levitating into the air.

Surrounded by pyro and using every corner of the VMA stage, fan favorite Green Day made an explosive return to the VMA stage by giving a high energy rock performance of their single “East Jesus Nowhere.”

Beyonce had all of Radio City dancing to “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” with her call and response to the audience as she translated her music video phenomenon to the live stage. The pop diva was backed by an army of dancers as they displayed their incomparable dance moves during her performance.

Already a household name across the pond, British rockers Muse gave a breakthrough performance expanding their fan base worldwide. The band performed their latest single “Uprising” from a live remote at the Walter Kerr Theater in the Broadway district of Manhattan in front of hundreds of screaming fans.

Determined to top herself and once again raise the bar for live performances, P!nk mastered a jaw-dropping aerial act 30 feet above the stage while performing her single “Sober.” And yes, she sang every single word of it.

Bringing the show to a climactic end, JAY-Z and Alicia Keys honored their hometown of New York as they gave a powerful performance of “Empire State of Mind.”

As the official VMA house band, hip-hop’s newest challenger Wale and the legendary go go band UCB hyped up the audience as they put their own unique spin on some of the biggest songs of the year, his own material and a few classic covers. They collaborated with a number of artists including Kid Cudi with “Day And Night,” The All-American Rejects with “Gives You Hell,” Pitbull with “You Know You Want Me” and 3OH!3 with “Don’t Trust Me”. Kid Cudi honored DJ AM during his performance of “Make Her Say.”

The star studded show also included appearances by Megan Fox, Jimmy Fallon, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Jack Black, Andy Samberg, Kristin Cavallari, Pete Wentz, Gerard Butler, Diddy, Tracy Morgan, Adam Brody, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Alexa Chung, Gabe Saporta of Cobra Starship and Justin Bieber, Ne-Yo, Nelly Furtado, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Chace Crawford, Leighton Meester, Miranda Cosgrove and Serena Williams.

The MTV audience was treated to exclusive first looks at fall’s most anticipated films and soundtracks including Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT and The Twilight Saga: New Moon trailers during the show. Viewers were also given a sneak peek at the latest trailer from the upcoming movie Fame during MTV News’ “2009 VMA Preshow.”

A lot were surprised, I included, to the latest American Idol news that has been going around for a couple of days already. Yes, Ellen DeGeneres is joining American Idol as the hit reality show’s fourth judge replacing Paula Abdul! Joe Jonas and Victoria Beckham filed the empty judge spot while producers were looking for Abdul’s replacement.

DeGeneres was announced as the show’s newest judge on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 after signing a 5-year contract with the producers. She will be joining the rest of the judging panel Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Kara DioGuardi.

Although singer/songwriter DioGuardi – who joined the panel last year – can’t wait to work with the beloved comic, she insists it can be tough at first. “I’m a huge Ellen DeGeneres fan; I think she’s going to bring so much to the show. She’s somebody who loves music, she’s positive, she loves kids… she is somebody who has watched the show from the beginning, knows everything there is to know about American Idol and I think ultimately it’s going to be a great new energy.

“It (joining the show) was pretty hellish. I got slagged… it was difficult for them to accept the change. It was difficult for them to understand why somebody who nobody had ever heard of could kind of come out of nowhere and sit next to these iconic figures,” Kara DioGuardi said.

Meanwhile, the former American Idol judge Paula Abdul has also given her blessing to the new member of Idol’s judging panel. Abdul posted on her Twitter account: “I think Ellen will b a gr8 (sic) judge on Idol. She is wildly funny, talented and I wish her the best of luck!”

The ninth season of American Idol will premiere in January 2010.

Movie and Television Review Classification Board (MTRCB)

For the first time ever, the Movie and Television Review Classification Board (MTRCB) has awarded a couple of TV shows and TV personalities for the 1st MTRCB TV Awards held at the Gateway Cinema 5 in Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City.

“Through this, we’re hoping to encourage the networks to come up with shows and programs that are not just entertaining but with values as well—that’s very important,” MTRCB Chairman Consoliza Laguardia told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an interview.

The awards night was attended by celebrities and famous personalities including Gloria Romero, Judy Ann Santos, Ryan Agoncillo, Charice Pempengco, Ogie Alcasid to name a few.

A back-to-back win—Miss Venezuela, Stefania Fernandez was crowned Miss Universe 2009 by her predecessor, Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza (also from Venezuela) during the 58th Miss Universe Coronation Night held at the Atlantis Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas on August 23, 2009 (August 24—Philippine Time). This would be the very first time in the history of Miss Universe that a country won the title for two consecutive year.

This would be Venezuela’s 6th Miss Universe crown. Venezuela won the Miss Universe during the following years: 1979, 1981, 1986, 1996, 2008, and the latest, 2009.

Stefania Fernadez stood out among the young women from 83 countries vying for this year’s Miss Universe title. Ada de la Cruz of Dominican Republic was announced as the 1st Runner-up while Miss Kosovo, Marigona Dragusha was named the 2nd Runner-up. Miss Australia, Rachael Finch and Miss Puerto Rico, Mayra Matos were named the 3rd Runner-up and 4th Runner-up, respectively.

Special awards were also given to Miss China, Wang Jingyao as Miss Congeniality, Miss Thailand, Chutima Durongdej as Miss Photogenic and Miss Panama, Diana Broce took home the Best National Costume Award.

Pamela Bianca Manalo, Miss Philippines, failed to make it to the semi-finals.

The coronation night was hosted by Celebrity Apprentice star Claudia Jordan and Access Hollywood co-anchor Billy Bush with performances by Flo Rida, David Guetta, Kelly Rowland, and Heidi Montag.

National Geographic Channel's ShowReal Asia presents "Asia's Titanic"

A milestone for Filipino Filmmakers—“Asia’s Titanic,” directed by Yam Laranas would be the very first Filipino-made full length documentary for the National Geographic Channel. “Asia’s Titanic” tells the tragic story of the passenger ship MV Doña Paz.

December 20, 1987, just five days before Christmas, passenger ship MV Doña Paz collided with an oil tanker, MT Vector, off Mindoro Island in the Philippines. It is said that almost 5,000 passengers died in the tragedy and called the world’s worst peacetime maritime disaster.

Through dramatic first hand accounts from survivors and rescuers, transcripts from the Philippine congressional inquiry into the tragedy, archival footage and photos and a re-enactment of the collision, “Asia’s Titanic” would dissect how the Doña Paz tragedy unfolded.

After the sinking of the MV Doña Paz in 1987, sea tragedies continue to plague the Philippines.

During a media preview of the documentary, director Yam Laranas clarified that “Asia’s Titanic” is not an investigative report. It doesn’t aim to find out who’s to blame for the tragedy. Instead, the team behind the first Filipino-made National Geographic Channel documentary wanted to tell the story of the MV Doña Paz and its survivors.

Producer Andrew Roque and director Yam Laranas, said that it took them three years to make the said documentary, which would premiering on the National Geographic Channel across Asia on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 8:00pm with replays on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 4:00am and 9:00am.

Host Teresa Herrera, mentor Jojie Lloren, and judges Rajo Laurel and Apples Aberin-Sadhwani return to lead Project Runway Philippines 2.

The 13 designers will be given weekly challenges that will test their skills and allow them to showcase their design philosophies. Every week, one designer will be eliminated until only three designers are left. The final three will each be given a chance to showcase their collection at the Philippine Fashion Week, where the judges will declare who has the best collection and is the winner of Project Runway Philippines.

The ultimate designer of Project Runway Philippines 2 will receive P500,000 in cash, an editorial spread in Preview Magazine, sewing machines from Brother International, a designer package from Mannequin Inc., and a summer scholarship package from School of Fashion and the Arts’ European Partner school, Instituto Marangoni.

The 13 designers competing for this season of Project Runway Philippines are: Cherry Veric, Hanz Coquilla, Jas Cristobal, Manny Marquez, Meanne Santos, Patrick Galang, Pau Geronimo, Randy Lea–o, Richie Bondoc, Russell Villafuerte, Santi Obcena, Tracy Dizon, and Hazel Sta. Ana.

Designer Hazel Sta. Ana was eliminated on August 12, 2009 after getting the lowest score on the first challenge where designers where asked to use the clothes they’re wearing to create a new outfit that showcase their design philosophy.

Angela Stuart—Santiago, a blogger is accusing ABS-CBN broadcast journalist Karen Davila of committing plagiarism.

Santiago narrated on her blog http://www.stuartsantiago.com/ that Karen Davila’s narrative spiels on an ABS-CBN produced documentary entitled “Laban ni Cory” (aired August 2, 2009), were lifted from the former’s book entitled, “Himagsikan sa Edsa—Walang Himala!” without the writer’s consent and was not given any credit.

However, ABS-CBN has already issued a statement on the issue through their head of Corporate Communications, Bong Osorio that reads:

“ABS-CBN does not condone plagiarism. We are currently investigating the serious allegation and will release our findings to the public.”

Meanwhile, an ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs insider has clarified that Davila didn’t write any part of the said documentary. With different ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs personalities including Korina Sanchez and Ces Drilon, Karen Davila was only asked to narrate the said documentary. A separate team of writers and researchers was responsible for writing the said documentary.

AMERICAN IDOL bosses will look for a permanent fourth judge to join the show by January 10, following PAULA ABDUL’s departure earlier this week August 4, 2009.

The 47 year old announced she had quit the hit U.S. show on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, sparking speculation over who will replace her.

Since the news broke, TV heads have announced stars including Victoria Beckham and Katy Perry will have guest slots on the judging panel throughout the audition process.

Now Fox chairman, Peter Rice, has revealed they are searching for an official fourth judge to take over full time – but they’re struggling to find someone suitable.

He says, “There is going to be a search. We love Paula. She’s been a really wonderful part of the show for eight years. There is going to be a change and that change we have to look at that as being a positive change. It wasn’t a decision we made, but we have to look at it in a positive way.

“We’ll have these guest judges do one week each during the audition (period)… there is no thought right now that any of these judges will be long term judge for us. All of the people we are talking to have successful careers. I don’t even think they’d be available to judge full-time. We have now until January to introduce a new energy to the panel.”

ABS-CBN’s newest romance-light drama “The Wedding” starring Anne Curtis, Zanjoe Marudo and Derek Ramsay is set to premiere on June 29, 2009. Jeff Jutirian and Mae Cruz direct the series.

The “2009 MTV Movie Awards” proved to be a comedy-filled night as host Andy Samberg welcomed a variety of his celebrity friends including Justin Timberlake and Will Ferrell to collaborate on ingenious short films and controversial and unexpected moments. This year, viewers truly took matters into their own hands, led by fans of Twilight, who banded together throughout the voting period to put their favorite film into its rightful place in Movie Awards history. The film took home five golden popcorn statues and received a huge majority of the record breaking votes submitted this year online and via text message.

Eminem stormed out in a heated rage after Bruno put him into a compromising position by landing face down into the rapper’s lap.

The MTV audience was treated to exclusive first looks at the highly anticipated movie releases of 2009 including “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” and “Public Enemies.”

Twilight dominated the ceremony, taking home the top honors for “Best Movie” at the conclusion of the night. Robert Pattinson won three statues for “Breakthrough Performance Male,” “Best Kiss” with co-star Kristen Stewart and “Best Fight” with Cam Gigandet. Kristen Stewart also won for “Best Female Performance.” High School Musical 3: Senior Year grabbed two awards as Ashley Tisdale won “Breakthrough Performance Female” and Zac Efron won “Best Male Performance.” Jim Carrey can add to his collection of statues after earning “Best Comedic Performance” for his role in Yes Man. Miley Cyrus earned her first golden popcorn statue for “Best Song From A Movie” for “The Climb.” Amy Poehler captured “Best WTF Moment” for her unforgettable scene in Baby Mama, and “Best Villain” went to the legendary performance Heath Ledger displayed in The Dark Knight.

The show got off to a hilarious start as Andy Samberg took fans through a parody of some of this year’s favorite films including Slumdog Millionaire, Twilight, The Reader and Star Trek. Andy’s wild journey included a cameo by Taylor Swift and ended with him naked in the back of a limo next to Justin Timberlake. Finally arriving onstage in time to open the show, Andy got the crowd hyped up with the help of Mixmaster Mike.

Dressed to the nines and backed by a 20 piece orchestra, Academy Award(R) winner Forest Whitaker, Grammy Award(R) winner LeAnn Rimes and multi-platinum recording artist Chris Isaak paid respect to Andy and his incredibly vibrant musical career as they serenaded the crowd with a classical arrangement of “Jizz In My Pants,” “I’m On A Boat,” “Lazy Sunday,” “Dick In A Box” and “Motherlover.” The talented trio earned a standing ovation as they turned these edgy hits into an operatic masterpiece.

Zac Efron, Kiefer Sutherland and Triumph the Insult Dog presented former MTV Movie Awards host Ben Stiller with the “MTV Generation Award” for his dynamic career and entertainment of MTV audiences over the years. The honorees began with lofty praises reminiscent of this year’s Oscars(R), but the tribute awkwardly turned into a no-holds-barred roast when Sutherland broke down sobbing and Triumph started taking jabs at Stiller.

Joined onstage by a New Orleans style brass ensemble and a hypeman, Eminem made a triumphant return to the MTV stage as he performed his latest singles “We Made You” and “Crack A Bottle” from his #1 album Relapse. Kings of Leon made their first-ever live appearance on MTV, performing their rock anthem “Use Somebody” off their Only by the Night album.

In true MTV Movie Awards fashion, the night was filled with laugh-out-loud parodies including the “Explosion” music video starring Andy “Bruce Springsteen” Samberg, Will “Neil Diamond” Ferrell and triple threat writer, director, producer JJ Abrams “as himself” on keyboards. Needless to say it left viewers with a whole new notion of Hollywood’s tough guys walking away from mega-movie explosions.

Always looking to break the mold when it comes to award shows, MTV teamed up with Orbit(R) gum to perform a first-of-its-kind live commercial pod takeover featuring Hayden Panetierre and Big Pak, who presented Amy Poehler with the “Best WTF Moment” award.

The “2009 MTV Movie Awards” welcomed the top names in Hollywood, music and TV throughout the night as the list of superstar presenters included Denzel Washington, Cameron Diaz, Will Ferrell, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Kiefer Sutherland, Bruno, Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Sandra Bullock, Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Hayden Panetierre, Sienna Miller, Jonah Hill, Lil Wayne, Chris Pine, Anna Faris, Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, Abigail Breslin, Michael Bay, Ryan Reynolds, Leighton Meester, Taraji P. Diversity, a street dance group wins ITV’s reality TV show “Britain’s Got Talent” Saturday evening (Sunday morning Philippine time) after getting the most number of call-in votes. Fan favorite and world singing sensation Susan Boyle is this year’s runner-up.

Diversity will be performing in front of Queen Elizabeth II and will be bringing home 100,000 pounds.

Meanwhile, after the finals, Susan Boyle dubbed as “SuBo” by fans was rushed to a private clinic after suffering exhaustion.

The FOX News reports, “Paramedics helped the “spaced-out” star through the lobby and into an ambulance just after 6 p.m. local time. A Met Police Inspector and a police doctor were called to assist.”

“She’d been at the hotel for a few days, but since Saturday’s final had been acting strangely, causing a bit of a stir,” said Fox’s source at the hotel.

“The staff were concerned – something wasn’t right.

“When the paramedics and police arrived she agreed to go voluntarily. She didn’t make a fuss. The paramedics calmly took her out through the main lobby and into the waiting ambulance.

“It was all done very calmly. They didn’t want to stress or upset her. She didn’t look well – she looked lost, not all there.”

After the nationwide vote, Kris Allen wins American Idol Season 8

UPDATE – After the nationwide vote, Kris Allen from Conway, Arkansas has been declared as the new American Idol during the American Idol results show, Wednesday night (Thursday morning, Philippine time) at the Nokia Theatre, LA.

Allen bested Adam Lambert, a theater actor from San Diego, CA.

Ryan Seacrest also announced that nearly 100 million votes were cast to determine this year’s winner.

“No Boundaries,” a song co-written by American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi is this year’s winner’s song.

Biggest personalities in the industry also performed during the 2-hour results show including Lionel Richie, Keith Urban, Rod Stewart, Fergie, Black Eyed Peas, KISS, Cyndi Lauper, Carlos Santana, Queen, Queen Latifah, Steve Martin and Jason Mraz.

“It feels good, but Adam deserves this,” Allen, 23 said. “I don’t even know what to feel right now. This is crazy.”

“I think that hopefully me and my wife will get some more time together, not being in Arkansas as much as I was,” he told Hollyscoop.com.

“I’m just happy that I have a music career,” said Kris. “Since I was 13 years old, I knew this is what I wanted to do,” he added.

When asked if he was ready for stardom, he said, “I feel like I’m ready. American Idol boot camp got me ready,” he joked.

06:00PM – The show is on! Ryan Seacrest reminded everyone who will use TVRs to set-up them up properly because the finale show tomorrow will go for more than 2 hours. For the first round, the finalists will sing a song of their choice. Kris won the toss coin and chose to sing second.

06:05 PM – Adam is first to perform with “Mad World,” which he performed during the “Birth Week.” In the VTR, his dad said that Adam would yell for one-hour every night. The performance is mellow, calm and PERFECT! But it was like a scene from a horror movie because of Adam’s long black coat and the sea of fog. Randy gave Adam an A+. Kara said that Adam totally rocked. Paula said the performance is haunting and Adam did a brilliant job. Simon said it was the best performance for the season but it was over theatrical that reminded him of “Phantom of the Opera” but Randy insisted that it’s “Twilight.”

06:14 PM – Kris Allen performed next with the song “Ain’t No Sunshine.” During Kris’ younger years, his parents would pay him a quarter to sing. For her mom’s birthday, she gave her mom a “music coupon.” Going back to the performance, it was okay but I feel like there’s something missing – there’s no “heart” in it. It failed to move me or something. Randy said it was one of the best performances in the Idol stage. Kara said that Kris have an intimate bond with the audience and something is wrong with you if you can’t feel Kris’ performance. Simon said that at first he wasn’t sure if America got it right with Kris but he takes it back after the performance.

06:18 PM – Simon said that Kris Allen won the first round.

06:25PM – Simon Fuller chose the song “Change is Gonna Come” for Adam. Randy said it was unbelievable and that Adam can sing his face off. Kara said it was the best interpretation and best performance from the beginning. Paula said Adam looked like a superstar and said that whatever happen he’ll be iconic. Simon said that Adam is 100% back in the game.

06:38 PM – Kris Allen sang “What’s Goin’ On,” a song chosen by Simon Fuller. Randy said it was a great song choice but it’s was very light. Kara said that Kris was true to himself since Day One. Paula said that Kris tore the song and made Marvin Gaye proud. Simon said it was too laid back for a night like this.

06:41 PM - Simon said that Adam won the second round.

06:50 PM – For the third round, the top two finalists will sing the Winner’s Song co-written by Idol judge Kara DioGuardi entitled, “No Boundaries.” Adam sang the winner’s song first. Randy said it was not his favorite Adam performance and it was pitchy. Kara was moved by the performance and felt proud. Paula said it was remarkable and she’ll be a frontline fan of Adam forever. Simon said that Adam is the best and most original Idol contestant.

07:02 PM – Kris Allen sang the winner’s song next. Randy said that Kris is an amazing competitor. Kara said the song was too high for him but said that people should vote on the season not this single performance. Paula said that Kris deserve to be in the finale. Simon said that his first performance was the highlight and that he deserves to stand on the stage tonight.

07:09 PM – To wrap up the show, Carrie Underwood performed “Home Sweet Home.”

More than 88 million votes were cast to determine this year’s Top 2 finalists of American Idol. Unfortunately (or fortunately), Danny Gokey was the one who was sent home after getting the lowest number of votes Wednesday night (Thursday night Philippine time).

Danny Gokey performed “Dance Like Sister” and “You Are So Beautiful” during the performance night and earned praises from the judges.

Adam Lambert and Kris Allen were announced as the Top 2 finalists, who will battle it out on the Idol finale next week.

Alicia Keys also gave an update on Idol Gives Back just like what Carrie Underwood did the other night.

Last night, we have seen the American Idol Top 3 finalists sing two songs?first is the judge’s choice and second is their personal choice.

Danny Gokey performed first and sang “Dance Little Sister,” the song Paula has chosen for him. Randy said that Danny’s performance was “dope” and had a lot of energy. Kara thought the singing was too gyrating but liked Paula’s song choice. Paul believes that Danny did really good while Simon said that the dancing was a bit desperate but also said that it was very good vocally.

Randy and Kara chose “Apologize” for Kris Allen to sing. He didn’t change the arrangement of the song and I find the performance a bit plain, it was just like his previous performance – nothing special. Randy said that Kris has showed what kind of artist he could be in the business. Paula is very proud of Kris Allen but pointed out that there was a really loud bum note. Kara wishes that Kris Allen made the song his own. But Simon said that Kris shouldn’t be blamed for not reinventing a song he (being Kris) didn’t choose.

And to wrap-up the first round, Adam Lambert sang “One,” the song Simon has chosen. Randy said that Adam has been hot since day one. Kara then said that Adam’s performance was unbelievable. On the other hand, Paula called Adam “the American Idol.” Simon said it was a brilliant performance.

After the performances, Carrie Underwood who was in Africa gave update on Idol Gives Back.

Danny Gokey sang “You Are So Beautiful,” which Randy loved and said that Danny can really, really, really sing. Kara described the performance to be stunning and amazing. Paula said Danny made the song beautiful by changing its structure and that she was left breathless. Simon commented that it was “vocal master class.”

Kris Allen sang “Heartless” by Kanye West while playing the guitar. The judges all agreed that it was a great performance. Randy even said that he liked Kris Allen’s version than the original. Kara described the performance to be bold, brave and fearless. Paula commended Kris for doing something “current.” Simon said that the first song was a lame choice.

Singing “Crying” is Adam Lambert. Randy liked this performance more than the first performance. Kara was shocked at Adam’s ability to hit high notes. Paula said, “if Steven Tyler was the mentor, he wouldn’t have anything to say.” Simon said that Adam would sail through the next round.

Tonight, we will all found out how makes it to the finale.

Miss Philippines-Earth 2009 Winners (Carousel Productions, Inc.)

Sandra Seifert, a Filipino-German from Negros Occidental was crowned as this year’s Miss Philippines-Earth, Sunday night, May 10, 2009 at the Arena Entertainment and Recreational Center of the People in San Juan City.

The coronation night was broadcasted over ABS-CBN.

Seifert was earlier disqualified on Binibining Pilipinas 2009 pageant after organizers’ found out of her sexy pictorial for a men’s magazine. She will now represent the Philippines on the Miss Earth 2009 pageant come October.

Grezilda Adelantar is Miss Philippines Eco Tourism, Patricia Marie Tumulak from Quezon City is Miss Philippines Fire while Michelle Martha Braun is Miss Philippines Air. And, Catherin Loyola from Sydney, Australia is Miss Philippines Water.

Almost 50 Filipinas from all over the Philippines as well as other parts of the world took part in this year’s search.

ABS-CBN, the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate, is launching on Monday, May 11, its year-long campaign to encourage Filipinos to begin taking an active role in the upcoming 2010 Presidential Elections.

“Boto Mo, iPatrol Mo: Ako Ang Simula” calls on Filipinos, especially the youth, to get involved this early by registering as voters and closely watching preparations for the 2010 race.

“Many young Filipinos have become apathetic and cynical that real change can ever happen in the country,” ABS-CBN Senior Vice President for News and Current Affairs Maria Ressa said.  ”But we are telling them to have faith and do something about it. We have one year to change traditional politics in our country and we are empowering them through this multimedia campaign.”

Ressa said young Filipinos can initiate change as early as now by registering to vote. ABS-CBN will be setting up voter registration booths on May 11 in Metro Manila, Pampanga, Cebu, and Davao. On its web site (abs-cbnnews.com) and through text, it will also encourage voters here and abroad to report their concerns and observations on the coming elections.

She also urged people to join the campaign and sign up at “Boto Mo, I-Patrol Mo” (BMPM) booths on Monday.  Ressa said, “We successfully used BMPM in 2007 – when Filipinos across the country used their cellphones to report anomalies, violence and payoffs during elections – the first time ever that mobile technology was used for a political purpose – to patrol the votes.”  Now we are taking it one step further -using television, radio, cable TV, the Internet and mobile phone technology to empower Filipinos to push for change across ABS-CBN’s multiplatform structure, which encompasses television, radio, cable TV, the Internet, and mobile technology.  

The May 11 activities will begin in ABS-CBN’s top-rating morning show “Umagang Kay Ganda,” which will be held at the historic La Salle gymnasium in Greenhills, where the first quick election count was held in 1986. A voter and BMPM registration booth will be set up in La Salle.

ABS-CBN Newsgathering Head Charie Villa said ABS-CBN News teams will also be deployed in Pampanga, Cebu, and Davao where they will report on voter registration in these areas and the current political situation there. For the entire day, ABS-CBN’s Ces Orena Drilon will be anchoring from Davao; Julius Babao from Cebu; and Pinky Webb from Davao.

Voter registration and BMPM booths will be set up in San Fernando Plaza in San Fernando, Pampanga; Plaza Independencia in Cebu City; and People’s Park in Davao City.

In the evening, ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel, will be bringing together for the first time the reported presidential aspirants at a leadership forum at the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City. The forum will be aired live from 7 pm to 9pm, also on Monday. Confirmed guests as of May 7 are Senators Panfilo Lacson, Francis Escudero, Mar Roxas, Richard Gordon; Pampanga Gov. Ed Panlilio; and Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro.

Ressa said the campaign will also be made in cyberspace, especially the social networking sites such as Multiply, YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook. abs-cbnnews.com will launch its online and texting polling on choices for 2010 as well as the issues that the public thinks should be addressed by the next president.

ABS-CBN is partnering with Artist Revolution and YouthVote Philippines who will be staging a mini-concert at the Music Museum at 8pm titled “365 Days to Change…Toda Na ‘To.” ABS-CBN anchor Atom Araullo will be hosting the event.

Introduced in 2007, BMPM empowered citizens to patrol their votes by encouraging them to report election-related anomalies using new media. Its huge success didn’t only spark citizen participation, it also enabled ABS-CBN to document illegal election practices all over the country. It has received recognition from the Philippine Quill Awards, the Anvil Awards, and the Gold Quill Awards.

It’s ROCK week on American Idol and Slash was the Top Four finalists’ mentor.

Adam Lambert was the first to perform with the song “Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zeppelin. Randy described Adam’s performance as hot while Kara called Adam a rock god. Paula said the performance was “whole lotta perfect.” On the other hand, Simon jokingly said that the performance was a little “understated” and said that it’s his favorite performance from Adam. He also added that nobody could top his performance.

Allison Iraheta sang next with the song “Cry Baby” popularized by Janis Joplin. Randy didn’t like the song choice but said that Allison can sing. Kara agreed with Randy and said that Allison “becomes larger in life on stage.” Paula described Allison as fearless while Simon said that Allison showed complete confidence, but her version was almost same as the original.

After Adam and Allison performed, Kris Allen and Danny Gokey performed a duet of Styx’s “Renegade.”

Kris Allen performed The Beatles’ “Come Together.” Randy loved the guitar playing and appreciated Kris’ song choice. Kara described the performance to be “trying too hard” and said that it wasn’t Kris’ best performance. Paula said that Kris need more energy. Simon said that Kris Allen’s performance is boring and was like eating an ice for lunch.

Danny Gokey was the last to perform with the song “Dream On” popularized by Aerosmith. Randy gave Danny an A+ for effort but said the performance was not perfect. Kara commended Danny for taking chances. Paula thought it wasn’t the right song for Danny. Simon agreed with the rest of the judges but commented that the last note was like a scene from a horror movie.

Before the show ended, Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert performed a duet of “Slow Ride.”

Few weeks after the judges saved him from elimination, American Idol finalist Matt Giraud finally said goodbye Wednesday night (Thursday, Philippine time).

Matt who sang “My Funny Valentine” during the performance night got mixed reviews from the judges. Randy Jackson described the performance to be “pitchy.” Kara DioGuardi felt that Matt isn’t emotionally committed to the song. But, Paula Abdul loved the performance. Meanwhile, Simon Cowell said that the performance was absolutely brilliant.

Forty-seven million votes were cast but Giraud got the lowest. What shocked the audience is that Adam Lambert was in the bottom two with Matt, which I think is a wake up call for his fans not to be complacent but to vote every week even how great his performance is.

American Idol finalists explored the standards from the Rat Pack era with Jamie Foxx as their mentor.

Kris Allen was the first to sing during the performance who sang “The Way You Look Tonight.” Randy thought it was Kris Allen’s best performance to date. Kara said that Kris set the standards high that night. Paula said that Kris turned from the boy-next-door image to handsome. Simon described the performance to be a little bit “wet.”

Singing “Someone to Watch Over Me” is Allison Iraheta, which the judges all agreed to be a great performance. Randy said that Allison sounded like Pink “with more octaves.” Kara said the performance would be enough to get her to the finals. Paula thought that Allison delivered an innocent performance.

“My Funny Valentine” is Matt Giraud’s song choice for this week. Randy described the performance to be pitchy. Kara felt that Matt isn’t emotionally committed to the song. But, Paula loved the performance. Meanwhile, Simon said that the performance was absolutely brilliant.

Danny Gokey performed “Come Rain or Come Shine,” which impressed the Idol judges. Randy said that Danny could have an album out of the era and still win. Kara said that it was the most creative that Danny has ever been with a melody. Simon said that the performance was outstanding.

Adam Lambert was the last to perform with the song “Feeling Good.” Randy described the performance to be too “theatrical.” Kara said that her jaw drops every time Adam performs. Paula said that words cannot describe Adam. Simon feels that Adam is determined to win and entertain.

Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe on "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" (Warner Bros)

The stars of the Harry Potter are set to be digitally aged for the final installment of the hit movie series. They would undergo an aging treatment from the team behind Brad Pitt’s transformation on “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”

Lead stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are currently filming the last two-part movie of the franchise–Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The epilogue of the J.K. Rowling novel takes place 19 years in the future, when their characters are in their thirties.

But instead of casting older actors to play them, producers are using digital technology to age them – the same technique used in Pitt’s hit film.

Producer David Heyman says, “We were looking at different ways of doing it, other actors and so on. And then we saw ‘The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button’ and that ageing technology so I think we’ll try that because I’d feel terrible about having other people take those parts at the last gasp.”

However, Radcliffe is worried about the ageing process – insisting he’d rather hire another actor to portray an older Harry Potter rather than risk it going wrong.

He says, “If it’s good I’ll be really pleased but I’m just nervous about the idea. If it’s not good and that’s what people are left with that would be awful.

“If it came to a choice between having me, Emma and Rupert looking a bit stupid and it being slightly comical or having other actors play us I would go for the other actors every time.”

But he’s adamant that he and his other co-stars will do their best to cast their magic in the scenes.

Radcliffe adds, “Having now seen Benjamin Button I know that it can be done and it’s going to be up to me, Rupert and Emma to look older and try to get that.”

Anne Curtis is the latest celebrity to land a guest role on the ABS-CBN television series “May Bukas Pa.” The actress who is scheduled to fly to Europe for a vacation with her friends will play a “good girl” on the hit television series.

“Pa-sweet ang role ko dito. I’ll be portraying Carla, isang girl na sobrang masunurin, matalino kaya favorite ako ng dad ko, to the point na di na gaano napapansin ng dad ko yung kapatid ko. How I came across Santino is what the people should all watch out for,” the actress said.

“Sobrang cute talaga! I love his eyes. Yung mga little nuances niya during the taping makes him so adorable. Magaling umarte ang bata. I’m impressed,” the actress said when asked how her first scene with Santino (played by Zaijan Jaranilla) went.

The actress also shared with Brink Notes Entertainment Daily how she felt when the role was offered to her.

“Na-excite talaga ako. Who wouldn’t like that offer di ba? Kaya grab na syempre.”

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest announced that 45 million votes were cast this week. The finalists opened the results show with a group number choreographed by judge Paula Abdul.

Lil Rounds who sang “I’m Every Woman” during the performance night was the first to be sent home.

Anoop Desai and Allison Iraheta were both in the bottom three same with Lil. But, Anoop Desai was sent home after.

Harry Wayne KC Casey, Thelma Houston, and Freda Payne performed a medley of disco hits. David Archuleta was also present on the results show and performed “Touch My Hand.”

Two of the seven American Idol finalists would be sent home on the results show because judges chose to save Matt Giraud from elimination last week; hence, the double elimination this week.

This week, Idol finalists were asked to sing “disco hits.”

Lil Rounds opened the “disco night” with the song “I’m Every Woman.” Randy thought the performance sounded wild and failed to show her “artist side.” Simon predicted that this would Lil’s last week on the show. He also said that there was no originality on her performance and was a mess.

Kris Allen’s version of “She Works Hard for the Money” impressed the judges because of its originality. Kara thought that the risk Kris took with the song’s arrangement really paid off. While Paula said that the arrangement has a Santana feel to it. Simon thought the performance was not karaoke, original and fantastic. Randy believes that Kris has proven that he is ready for the big time.

Danny Gokey performed “September,” which the judges thought to be a good performance. Randy thought that the song worked for Danny. Kara said that Danny’s pitch is right on. Paula said that Danny’s voice is one of the sexiest voices she has heard. Simon thought the performance was good but not special.

Allison Iraheta’s version of “Hot Stuff” impressed the judges but some didn’t like the song’s arrangement. Randy said that Allison is one the best singers in the competition. Kara said that Allison picked the right song but the arrangement failed. Paula said that Allison is authentic and hit the last note “off the chart.” Simon thought it was a brilliant performance.

“If I Can’t Have You” is Adam Lambert’s song choice for this week. Kara said Adam’s performance was brilliant. Randy thinks that Adam is ready and that he has it majorly going on. Paula liked that Adam didn’t make the disco song cliche?. Simon liked that Adam did something that no one is expecting.

Matt Giraud sang “Stayin’ Alive” but Randy and Simon didn’t like the performance. Randy didn’t like the arrangement but said that Matt can really sing. Kara commented that Matt brought back the disco feel and thought that Matt gave a “solid” performance. Paula said that Matt saved his life on the show. Simon thought the performance was a little bit desperate.

Anoop Desai was the last to perform with the song “Dim All the Lights.” Randy said that Anoop can really sing but said that he didn’t love the song’s arrangement. Kara said that Anoop’s last two performances were his best. Paula said that Anoop’s vocals are magical and that he looked fantastic. But, Simon said the performance was mediocre and that it was a horrible version of the song.

ABS-CBN’s hit primetime television series “Tayong Dalawa” received a plaque of appreciation from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for “promoting AFP’s good image” Thursday, April 16, 2009. Lead stars Jake Cuenca and Gerald Anderson also received separate plaques for their excellent portrayal of soldiers.

Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Alexander B. Yano conferred the plaques in an award ceremony held at the Chief of Staff Headquarters, Camp Aguinaldo.

The actors expressed their gratitude to the Armed Forces on “SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon.”

“Sobrang overwhelming. ‘Di naman naming sukat akalain na talagang bibigyan kami ng award ng Army for what we do but at the end of the day, from the beginning talagang we wanted to make a good example. We took the responsibility of representing the Philippine Army.

“Sobrang overwhelming lang mabigyan ng award. Like, it’s a big thing,” Cuenca said.

“We’re just very happy, very overwhelmed with what’s happening to us. We’re just happy na ‘yong show namin “Tayong Dalawa” is a good influence to the people.

“Masaya kami sa outcome ng show not just because of our ratings but also because the military recruits went up dahil po sa show namin,” Anderson said.

There was a 300 percent increase in Philippine Military Academy requirements because of the show’s promotion.

In February 2009, the two actors donated their “Deal or No Deal” winnings to the cancer patients of the AFP Medical Center located in V. Luna Avenue, Quezon City.

American Idol judges have decided to use their “save” when host Ryan Seacrest announced during the Wednesday results show (Thursday Philippine time) that finalist Matt Giraud received the lowest number of votes.

Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai joined Matt Giraud in the bottom three.

American Idol alumna Jennifer Hudson performed “If This Isn’t Love” while Miley Cyrus sang her latest song “The Climb.”

Saving Matt Giraud from elimination means only two things – two finalists will be sent home next week, and judges can’t use the save anymore. Judge Simon Cowell announced that next week is “disco week.”

Filipinos would hear the phrase “Is that your final answer?” again as “Who Wants to be Millionaire?” comes back to Philippine television. TV5 (Associated Broadcasting Company) is set to revive the local version of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” which was originally broadcasted by IBC 13 from 2000 to 2002.

Actor-TV host Vic Sotto will host TV5’s version of the hit game show that would start airing on May 23, 2009. Christopher de Leon hosted the show during its run on IBC 13.

The local version of the game show promises to be loyal to its original format. Studio contestants can win P2,000,000 jackpot prize every night.

“Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” will be holding auditions in SM Malls starting May. Don’t miss the premiere episode of the hit game show on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 6pm on TV5.

Jamie Foxx has apologized to Miley Cyrus after his crude comments about the teen sensation.

The Academy Award-winning US film actor has launched a rant about the 16-year-old on his weekly radio show “The Foxxhole.” He told the teen superstar to “make a sex tape and grow up” and to get a gum transplant, adding: “Do some heroin… get some crack in your pipe.” The actor said this after Cyrus’ feud with Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke who snubbed her at the Grammy Awards in February 2009.

In Jay Leno’s “The Tonight Show,” the actor expressed his apology saying: “There was a situation with Miley Cyrus, and I just want to say, I apologize for what I said. I didn’t mean it maliciously. You know I’m a comedian. You know my heart. Miley, I apologize, so I’ll call you. I got a daughter too, so I completely understand (sic).”

Remaining 7 finalists of the hit Fox show American Idol sang popular movie theme songs on the Tuesday performance night (Wednesday Philippine time). Quentin Tarantino made an appearance as the finalists’ mentor.

Host Ryan Seacrest has announced that only two judges will give comments after each performance, instead of four to save airtime.

Allison Iraheta opened the performance with the song “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing.” Judge Paula and Simon liked the performance. Steven Van Zandt who was at the audience and gave Iraheta a standing ovation.

“Everything I Do, I Do It For You” was Anoop Desai’s song choice for this week. Randy congratulated Anoop saying that he has found his “zone.” Kara applauded Anoop for “adding soul” into the performance.

Adam Lambert sang Steppenwolf’s “Born to be Wild” which Paula saying, “Take it all in, my dear.” The reason, Adam that you’re shaking up this whole competition is that you dare to dance in the path of greatness. However, Simon said that although the performance was great vocally, it was like watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Matt Giraud sang “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?” while playing the piano. Randy thought Giraud over sung the song. Kara agreed with Randy.

Singing “Endless Love” this week is Danny Gokey. Paula thought the performance was beautiful while Simon was disappointed with the arrangement of the song.

“Falling Slowly” is Kris Allen’s song choice. Randy thought the performance was pitchy all the way. Kara said it was an obscure song.

Last to sing that night was Lil Rounds with the song “The Rose.” Paula emphasized the song’s beautiful lyrics, but Simon said, You are not the artist I believe we met seven or eight weeks ago.”

In an interview with London paper The Daily Mirror, American Idol judge Simon Cowell has hinted that he might leave the show. Cowell is currently doing three shows– “American Idol” and UK-based shows “Britain’s Got Talent” and “The X Factor.”

“I am not sure we can sustain me doing three shows a year.

“They involve a lot of traveling.

“One may have to go. I don’t know which one. That is the problem, I like all of them. I can’t imagine not doing Britain’s Got Talent, and I can’t imagine not doing X Factor. But, I guess America is more likely to go because I have got one year under contract. Maybe that will be the end,” the judge said.

There are several circumstances in the Idol show that Cowell had to leave the show early (especially during the audition rounds) to catch a plane.

ABS-CBN is set to give life to the best-selling, most-loved and most read pocketbook series in the country, “Precious Hearts Romances” this May.

“Precious Hearts Romances” is composed of more than 6,000 titles and more than 30 million copies were sold here and abroad.

The PHR is a reflection how Filipinos fall in love. These pocketbooks hold some of the ultimate love stories, which are relatable to the readers.

The television adaptation of “Precious Hearts Romances” would be shown every afternoon starting this May.

“Bud Brothers” would be the first offering of “Precious Hearts Romances” and will feature Cristine Reyes and Jake Cuenca.

The first visually impaired American Idol finalist, Scott MacIntyre is the latest one to be sent home on the hit Fox show. Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai joined Scott in the bottom three.

“You’ve been an inspiration to the world,” Paula Abdul said.

Scott, 23 sang “The Search is Over” on the Tuesday performance night. Kara appreciated Scott playing the guitar but said that he has some off moments. Paula admired Scott’s effort to step away from the piano; but said that some high notes sounded rough. Simon thought that Scott should go back to the piano next week. Randy said that the performance didn’t have a “star quality.”

For the past few weeks, judges Simon and Paula kept on debating whether Scott should play the piano or not.

During the results show, Frankie Avalon, Flo Rida, and Kellie Pickler performed.

Next week on American Idol, finalists will sing popular movie theme songs with Quentin Tarantino as their mentor.

American Idol Top 8 finalists sang songs from the year they were born on the Tuesday performance night.

Adam Lambert, born in 1982 sang “Mad World,”which impressed the judges. Simon Cowell even gave Adam a standing ovation.

Matt Giraud who was born in 1985 sang “Part-time Lover.” Randy Jackson said that his performance is one of the best that night, vocally. Kara called it “incredible” while Paula thought that performance deserved a standing ovation. Simon said that his performance this week was a million times better than last week.

“I Can’t Make You Love Me” is Allison Iraheta’s song choice for this week (born in 1992). Paula loved the “tenderness” that Allison put into the song. Simon thought the performance was good. Randy compared Allison with American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson. Kara commended Allison for making the song sound like “young.”

But, Simon said that the performance was indulgent, boring and forgettable. Randy thought that the arrangement was a little self-indulgent.

“Stand By Me” is Danny Gokey’s (born in 1980) song choice for this week. Randy didn’t like the arrangement that much. Kara said that Danny made it a three level performance, and he made the song his own. Paula said that Danny set the bar really high that night.

Anoop Desai (born in 1986) performed “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper, which the judges praised. But, Simon said that Anoop is like a singing yo-yo.

Lil Rounds (born in 1984) failed to impress the judges with her performance of “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” Simon said that Lil is a second- or third-rate version of Tina Turner.

On the Wednesday results night, another finalist would be sent home unless the judges decided to use their “save.”

Martin Nievera

Filipino singer Martin Nievera was chosen by Manny Pacquiao to sing the Philippine National Anthem in his upcoming fight with Ricky Hatton on May 2 (May 3 Philippine Time).

Pacquiao announced his pick on GMA Network’s primetime newscast, 24 ORAS.

The fight dubbed as “The Battle of East vs. West” will be happening at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

World boxing champion Pacquiao has also considered international renowned singer Lea Salonga to sing the national anthem.

During Pacquiao’s previous fights, it is standard that female singers are asked to lead the Philippine National Anthem. Karylle, Ciara Sotto, Nicole Angela Judalena, Kyla and Geneva Cruz were some of the female singers who lead the national anthem on his previous fights.

GMA Network will broadcast the May 2 Pacquiao-Hatton fight in the Philippines.

Cristine Reyes is set to appear on ABS-CBN’s hit television series “May Bukas Pa” as a guest star. Reyes would play the role of Cheska, a lady who tried to escape home by running away from her mother (played by Glenda Garcia).

Zaijian Jaranilla, the actor playing the role “Santino” in the television series admitted her admiration for actress Cristine Reyes. 

Cristine Reyes expressed how pleased she is to be part of the show and to be working with Zaijian.

“Nakakatuwa kasi siya. Marami siyang fans na napapasaya.

“Sobrang saya kasi siyempre sino ba naman ang hindi matutuwa na makasama sa top rating show na ‘May Bukas Pa?’” said the actress.

Ticketworld, a full service ticket company operating in Manila has announced Friday that tickets to the ‘David Cook & David Archuleta Live in Manila!’ concert on May 16, 2009 at the Mall of Asia Open Grounds are now on sale.

On March 24, 2009, Brink Notes Entertainment Daily first reported about the Manila concert of American Idol alumni after a video blog of the two appeared online announcing the said concert.

Tickets to the ‘David Cook & David Archuleta Live in Manila!’ concert are priced as follows: P315 (Bronze), P625 (Silver), P2075 (Gold), P3625 (VIP), and P6215 (Platinum).

Organizers of the concert have also posted a couple of guidelines on the Ticketworld website (www.ticketworld.com.ph). Children below 4 feet in height, pregnant women, individuals under the influence of drugs or liquior, persons with severe heart or medical condition would be denied entry to the concert for safety and security reasons.

Organizers have also listed items, which are prohibited within the concert venue that includes professional audio and video recording devices, professional cameras, weapons, glass, cans, plastic bottles, food, large metal buckles, big posters/placards/signages, fireworks, alcoholic beverages, spiked bracelets, wallet chains, back packs, waist packs, laser pens, large chains, and long and point umbrellas.

Organizers also have the right refuse entry to anyone not following the concert regulations.

A few weeks ago, I was shocked to find out that the Idol finalists were lip-syncing during group performances (to open the results show). What is more shocking is that an American Idol spokesperson has confirmed that yes – the finalists are lip-syncing during group performances. Why?

“Due to extensive choreography and to balance their voices with open mikes against a screaming audience, the Idols do sing along to their own prerecorded vocal track during the group performances only,” a spokesman of the show said.

As Michael Glitz wrote on The Huffington Post, “Either stop the lip syncing or stop the group performance. it’s [sic] a truly dreadful farce.”

Host Ryan Seacrest opened the show saying that 36 million votes were cast. American Idol 2008 David Cook sang “Come Back to Me,” and was presented with a platinum record for his debut album. Lady Gaga also performed during the results show. She sang the highly popular hit “Poker Face.”

As what I have predicted last night, Idol finalist Megan Joy was sent home. Allison Iraheta and Anoop Desai joined Megan Joy in the bottom three. Before Megan sang for the last time, Simon made it clear that they [the judges] won’t consider using the “save” on her.

Idol finalists were asked to sing popular downloads on the iTunes Music Store. This week’s theme gave the finalists a chance to be a little more current – but not that current.

Anoop Desai opened the Tuesday performance night (Wednesday night in the Philippines) with Usher’s “Caught Up.” Randy commended Anoop’s vocals but said that it wasn’t the right song for him. Kara commented that it was “like a bunch of frat guys dared you [him] to get up and sing Usher.” Paula said that Anoop should work on his showmanship but praised his cool vocals. Simon thought that Anoop came off like a wannabe, and his performance was a complete and utter mess.

Megan Joy’s rendition of “Turn Your Lights Down Low” failed to please the judges. Kara said that she likes Megan, but it wasn’t the right song for her. Kara also added that Megan might be in trouble. Paula said that Megan should dig deeper and surprise them. Simon said that the things they liked about Megan are disappearing and described Megan’s performance as boring, indulgent and monotonous. Randy felt that he was watching a paint dry.

“What Hurts The Most” is Danny Gokey’s song choice for this week. Paula said that it is the kind of performance that she would listen to over and over. Simon thought that it was Danny’s best performance of the season. Randy felt that it was Danny who started the show. Kara said that Danny’s performance gave her goosebumps.

Allison Iraheta goes up the stage and sang “Don’t Speak,” a song that reminds me of my childhood. Randy said that Allison was a little ahead of the beat but loved that she played the guitar. Kara thought that the performance was good but was a little forced. Paula praised Allison’s delivery and intonation saying that they’re “masterful.” Simon commented that Allison’s outfit looked straight out of the Addams Family.

Scott MacIntyre accompanied himself on the piano again while singing “Just The Way You Are.” Kara commended Scott’s smart song choice and said that the performance was moving. Paula said that she’s so proud of him. Simon called Scott’s performance “the best.”

Matt Giraud’s rendition of “You Found Me” failed to impress the judges. Paula said that Matt failed to show any of the qualities they liked about him. Simon commented that Matt is becoming different people just to stay in the competition. Randy blamed Matt’s wrong song choice. Kara said that Matt is going from the rock side of pop and the R&B side of pop.

Celine Dion’s “I Surrender” is Lil Rounds’ song choice for this week. Randy said that Lil sang the song really, really well. Kara was surprised by how Lil sang the song effortlessly. But, Paula said that she didn’t want to see an adult contemporary Lil. Simon described Lil’s performance to be “old-fashioned.”

“Play That Funky Music” is Adam Lambert’s song choice for this week. Paula said that Adam is pure genius. Simon said that the performance was original but not as good as last week’s performance. Randy said that Adam’s in the star zone. While Kara said that it was like Studio 57.
Kris Allen closed the night with the song “Ain’t No Sunshine,” which the judges all liked. Randy said that Kris Allen’s performance was creative and cool. Kara said “that is artisty!” Paula said that Kris Allen made the 30-year-old song sound like a new one. While Simon said that Kris’ performance tonight was his best so far.

Tomorrow night, we would all find out whether an Idol will be sent home or the judges would use their “save.” Who will be booted tomorrow? I think it would be either Matt or Megan Joy.

The report said that the confrontation happened after the two attended director Mark Reyes’ birthday celebration at the Oceana Restaurant, Seaside Boulevard, Pasay City. It was also written that the heated argument led into gun toting.

The report has also said that Epy Quizon was involved in the incident, which happened at around 1:00am of March 29, 2009.

The family of Richard Gutierrez including her actress-sister Ruffa Gutierrez has reacted negatively on the report.

The statement from editor Jo-Ann Q. Maglipon is posted on the Philippine Entertainment Portal and read:

“This is a statement of clarification, correction, and apology.

“Yesterday, March 29, at a little past 4:15 p.m., the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) uploaded a story on Richard Gutierrez and Michael Flores alleging the two actors had a confrontation on March 28 at director Mark Reyes’s birthday celebration. The four-paragraph story ended by saying that PEP “at press time is still investigating the incident.”

“The fact is that a report did reach PEP about an incident that reportedly occurred at around 1a.m. of March 29, allegedly involving Richard Gutierrez and Michael Flores. When I was told about this incident, I recognized that it was of interest to the public, and gave instructions to the staff to investigate further.

“At around 7:20 p.m., my attention was called to the story having been uploaded in the site. I had it pulled out immediately. I felt that, at that point, we had not exhausted our probe into the facts of the incident. While we were able to get in touch with Michael Flores, Epy Quizon, and Leo Martinez, who were all guests at the party, we had not as yet interviewed other personalities, particularly Richard Gutierrez. For this we apologize.

“To Richard Gutierrez, Michael Flores, Epy Quizon who were named in the story, to PEP readers who may have been confused, and, again to Richard Gutierrez whose side of the story we failed to get, our sincerest apologies.

“PEP will always maintain the best standards of web reportage, and on the unhappy occasion that it fails to do so, will acknowledge its error.”

Despite PEP’s apology, Annabelle Rama, mother of Richard Gutierrez is still filing a case against the entertainment news site. Aparrently, Rama is demanding for a retraction of the report, not an apology. But Maglipon’s side is persistent not to retract the report.

The World singing sensation Charice Pempengco has been in the United States for the past few weeks for the filming of her first-ever Hollywood movie. Charice has been “casted” on the second installment of “Alvin and the Chimpmunks,” which is entitled “The Squeakquel” being produced by 20th Century Fox.

Some scenes were shot at the Woodrow Wilson Classical High School in Long Beach, California. Charice is with her mother, Racquel and another companion.

The film is set to be released in the US some time in December this year and in the Philippines some time in January 2010.

Charice would be playing as herself in the said movie.

“It’s a dream come true for me,” Charice said in a phone interview.

“My mom is a big fan of the Chipmunks and that’s how I got to know the group,” she continued.

“It’s not a big role, but the fact that it’s a Hollywood movie is already a big deal for me.”

Alicia Keys’ “No One” is one the songs she performed in the said movie.

Michael Sarver who sang “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg” during the performance show is the latest American Idol finalist to be sent home after getting the lowest number of votes. Matt Giraud and Scott MacIntyre joined Michael Sarver in the bottom three.

Although Michael was asked to sing for another time to prove his talent, judge Simon decided not to use the “judges’ save” and said that he’s [Michael is] really going home.

The judges all agreed during the performance show that Michael picked the wrong song. Paula said that some of the notes didn’t work out for him. While Kara said that Michael should prove that he’s not just a singer but also an artist.

Ruben Studdard, Joss Stone, Smokey Robinson and Steview Wonder performed on the Idol results show.

Despite Michael being sent home, he would be joining the other nine Idol finalists in the American Idol tour.

As “Kapamilya, Deal or No Deal” bids goodbye today, Kris Aquino is set to host ABS-CBN’s newest game show, “Pinoy Bingo Night” that would start airing this Monday, March 30, 2009.

“Pinoy Bingo Night” is the local spinoff of the hit American game show “National Bingo Night.” This would be the biggest game show of ABS-CBN to date. Four hundred two studio players are expected to play every night vying for more than P2,000,000 (Two Million Peso) cash prize. Home viewers can also win just by watching the new game show.

Joining the host Kris Aquino are Mel Feliciano and Brod Pete who would be the show’s commissioner and bingo caller, respectively.

“Pinoy Bingo Night” replaces “Kapamilya: Deal or No Deal” starting Monday, March 30, 2009 on ABS-CBN just before TV Patrol.

A blogger friend once said that American Idol Season 8 is all about “poor song choices.” Yes, I agree with her. I don’t know whether it’s the finalists’ fault or the producers’. At any rate, I believe American Idol should think of better “weekly themes” because so far, the show is getting boring [although the Simon-Paula moments were funny]. But, because I love this franchise, I might as well give the recap of tonight’s (or last night’s) performance show.

The Top 10 finalists explored the Motown catalog this week. Smokey Robinson was this week’s mentor. Berry Gordey, founder of Motown record label watched the performances of the Idol finalists live.

Matt Giraud performed Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On,” which the judges like. Kara said that Matt could have pushed it [his performance] more. Simon thinks Matt’s performance is cool. Paula said that his [Matt’s] performance showed a sexy and cool vibe.

“How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” is Kris Allen’s song choice for the week. Simon thought that Kris should be more confident. Kara and Paula loved the performance.

Scott MacIntyre sang “You Can’t Hurry Love.” Simon thinks that Scott chose the wrong song. Randy agreed with Simon saying that Scott’s performance was “hotel-like.” Kara disagreed with the two gentlemen saying that the song was a good choice but his execute was not perfect.

Megan Joy sang Stevie Wonders’ “For Once In My Life” but Randy said that the performance was a “train wreck” for him. Kara and Paula agreed with Randy. Simon said the Megan looked good.

Anoop Desai performed “Ooh, Baby, Baby” and all the judges agreed that he has great vocals. Randy said that he wants more “energy.” While Simon said that Anoop was half-asleep during the performance.

Singing “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg” Michael Sarver failed to impress the judges. Paula thought that it was a tough performance, and some of the notes didn’t work out for him. Simon said that Michael’s performance wasn’t good enough. Randy thought that the song was too “big” for Michael. While Kara said that Michael needs to prove that he’s not just a singer but an artist.

Lil Rounds came up next with the song “Heatwave” but Randy noticed that the beginning of the song wasn’t great. Simon and Kara thought it wasn’t the right song for Lil.

Adam Lambert chose to sing “Tracks of My Heart” to show his “softer” side. I am thankful for he already got rid of black nail polish. Kara thought that it was one of the best performances of the night. Paula loved his “cleaned up” look. But, Simon said it was the best performance of the night saying that Adam is original and talented. Randy called the performance “unbelievably hot.”

The energetic Danny Gokey sang “Get Ready,” which Paula and Randy loved. But, Simon said the performance was “clumsy and amateurish.” Kara said that this is not Danny’s best performance but it was good.

Allison Iraheta closes the night with the song “Papa Was a Rollin Stone,” which Randy described as “blazing hot” performance. Kara encouraged everyone to vote for Allison. Simon said that it was one of Allison’s best performances.

So, who did you vote for? Tomorrow night, we would all find out who among the finalists would be sent home.

GMA Network’s “Survivor Philippines” continues its search for the second batch of castaways in Manila after the great turnout of the regional auditions. The castaway wannabes can audition on March 27 to 28 at SM North Edsa and March 29 to 30 at SM San Lazaro.

Residents of Metro Manila who are physically and mentally fit, can stay in a remote place for 39 days and aged 18 and above are welcome to audition for the second season of “Survivor Philippines.”

The second season winner of “Survivor Philippines” will be given the title “Pinoy Sole Survivor” and will bring home P3,000,000.00 (Three Million Pesos) cash prize.

The first season of “Survivor Philippines” was aired in September 2008 and lasted until December 2008. The first season was shot entirely in Ko Tarutao, Thailand.

“SRO Cinemaserye: Ganti ng Puso” is GMA Network’s newest offering every Thursday night. “Ganti ng Puso” will run for eight weeks and would premiere tonight, March 26, 2009. Maxene Magalona and Geoff Eigenmann would be on the lead roles.

“Ganti ng Puso” is a story about deceit revenge and love. Marvin Agustin, Sherly Cruz, Bianca King, Darla Ramirez, and Arci Munoz would also be part of the cast. Dominic Zapanta would direct the series while Jun Lana heads the creative team.

Actor Geoff Eigenmann said that this would be his more mature role to date.

“This is, I can say, the most mature role I’ve ever done. I can say na I graduated na from all the teenybopper stuff. I’ve done mature roles, but this, to date, is the most adult. Most mature kasi it’s a very deep character, very deceiving, very conniving, marami siyang tinatago, marami siyang hinanakit na gustong ilabas,” he said.

“Kapamilya Deal or No Deal,” the local franchise of Endemol’s “Deal or No Deal” hosted by Kris Aquino will finally bid goodbye on Friday, March 27, 2009. To celebrate its final week, several personalities from the entertainment industry would play in the hit TV game show.

Real-life couple Claudine Barretto and Raymart Santiago plays the game on Tuesday, March 24. The Wednesday, March 25 episode will feature Wyngard Tracy and Maricel Soriano. While, Ralph Recto and wife Vilma Santos try their luck on the Thursday, March 26 episode.

The finale episode of KDOND (Friday, March 27) will bring together the hosts of the three ABS-CBN game shows “Kapamilya, Deal or No Deal,” “Pilipinas, Game Ka Na Ba?” and “The Singing Bee” as Edu Manzano and Cesar Montano haggles with the banker.

Kris Aquino said on ABS-CBN “The Buzz” that the network didn’t renew the “Deal or No Deal” contract with Endemol. A new game show entitled “Pinoy Bingo Night” will replace “Kapamilya, Deal or No Deal” and will premiere on Monday, March 30, 2009.

Manny Pacquiao and Solar Entertainment Corporation have settled the issue with regards to the airing of Pacquiao’s upcoming fights including the May 2nd fight with Ricky Hatton. In a statement read by Pacquiao’s lawyer Atty. Franklin Gacal, Pacquiao apologized to the public on the confusion caused by the misunderstandings with Solar.

“Ang inyo pong lingkod, si Manny Pacquiao, ay nais iparating sa lahat na matapos ang masusing pag-aaral at pagtimbang-timbang namin ng Solar Entertainment Corporation napatunayan na ang kontrata tungkol sa TV Rights ng aking mga laban ay valid and binding at hindi nilabag nino man.

“Dahil po dito ay taos puso akong humihingi ng paumanhin kung kayo man ay naguluhan kung saan ipapalabas ang aking darating na laban kay Ricky Hatton. Ito po ay resulta lang ng hindi pagkaka-intindihan sa pagitan ng Solar Entertainment Corporation at MP Promotions. Sana ay maunawaan ng lahat. Simula sa araw na ito ay nais kong mag-concentrate nang husto na lang sa aking training para sa aking darating na laban ngayong Mayo 2,” Pacquiao said on his written statement.

Pacquiao’s lawyer also added that GMA-7’s remains as Solar Entertainment Corporation’s media partner.

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation responded to this new development saying that the network signed a contract with Pacquaio for the airing of the latter’s upcoming fights. But the network, respects Pacquiao’s decision of staying with Solar Entertainment Corporation.

“Manny Pacquiao approached ABS-CBN to be his media partner in airing his next fights. We thank him for trusting us. He signed a contract with us, but we will not stand in the way if he decides to change his mind. We respect it, wish him good luck and we wait to hear from him,” ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation said. – With reports from GMA News and ABS-CBN News

GMA Network’s adaptation of “Zorro” starring Richard Gutierrez and Rhian Ramos will the hit Philippine television starting Monday, March 23, 2009. Mark Reyes directs the series. This would be Richard’s comeback to primetime television after the GMA-7’s television series “Codename: Asero” in 2008.

“Zorro” would be Richard and Rhian’s second onscreen team-up where they will give life to the characters Antonio dela Vega/Zorro and Lolita. The two were first seen in GMA-7’s “Captain Barbell.”

Richard underwent series of trainings for fencing and horseback riding.

“I realized that fencing is an intricate sport. The movements have to be precise. You must be graceful because it’s like choreography,” Richard said in an interview with Philippine Star columnist Ricky Lo.

Richard as well as the other cast members attended a workshop with renowned director Peque Gallaga for the series is set in the 1900s.

The rift between World Boxing Champion Manny Pacquiao and Solar Sports continues. In a TV interview, Pacquiao remained firm in his decision of granting ABS-CBN rights to air his upcoming fights.

“My decision is still the same. Sana panoorin nila ang fight ko this coming May 2nd in ABS-CBN,” the boxing icon said.

Meanwhile, GMA Network was very disappointed with the decision of Pacquiao transferring from Solar Sports to ABS-CBN. Pacquiao announced on Wednesday night his new deal with ABS-CBN.The same statement released by GMA Network mentioned the Philippine Daily Inquirer report published on March 18, 2009 by Beth Celis stating that “the network (ABS-CBN) is said to have offered Manny full media support in the next election to ensure victory in the next year’s congressional elections.” The network also clarified that contract for airing Pacquiao’s fight in the Philippines is between Manny Pacquiao and Solar Sports not GMA Network. Solar Sports and GMA Network are under a block-time agreement granting the latter rights to air the Pacquiao fights in the country.

ABS-CBN also issued a statement through Bong Osorio, head of ABS-CBN’s Corporate Communications saying: “We understand GMA7’s disappointment about the decision of Manny Pacquiao to have ABS-CBN as its media partner, but it should avoid making thinly veiled accusations based on a columnist’s speculation. It alleges that ABS-CBN’s supremacy in reach is to be used for Manny Pacquiao’s political plans—which is not true. … We also believe that there is no basis for Solar Entertainment Corporation to take legal action. ABS-CBN did not violate Solar’s rights. Pacquiao rescinded his contract with Solar before he approached ABS-CBN to be his media partner. We merely welcomed him as a Kapamilya.”

On the other hand, Solar Sports executives and Pacquiao are expected to sit down and talk this weekend about the latter’s decision of transferring from Solar Sports to ABS-CBN. According to Solar Sports, Vice-president Jude Turcuato said that it was Pacquiao who wanted the meeting.

Solar Sports’ legal counsel said, “Legal action will be Solar’s last option.”

Solar Sports reiterated once again that Solar Sports has fulfilled its obligations stipulated in the contract that both parties (Solar Sports and Manny Pacquaio) have signed in 2007.

The Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation has officially declared Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz the Box Office Queen and King of 2008 for the movie “A Very Special Love” during the 40th Entertainment Box Office Awards.

ABS-CBN is set to launch its new summer station ID this Sunday, March 22, 2009 on “ASAP ’09” with the slogan “Kayang-kaya natin, Kapamilya!” The launching of the new station ID will also be seen on all ABS-CBN’s platforms including Myx, Cinema One, Lifestyle Channel and Velvet.

Kapamilya stars and news and current affairs personalities would be seen building homes for the poor, cleaning a river and the sea, sweeping streets, feeding children, among many other community activities that would help make this world a better place to live in. The “socially relevant” theme of the station ID is in time with the global financial and economical crises the world is currently facing.

Billy Crawford, John Lloyd Cruz, Luis Manzano, and Vhong Navarro sang the theme song of the new station ID, which is about “spreading love and care everyday and elsewhere.”

The Creative Communications Management Team of ABS-CBN spearheaded the production of the new Kapamilya summer station ID that would start airing this Sunday.

After the nation has voted, the results show of American Idol Wednesday night said goodbye to the 21-year-old finalist Alexis Grace who sang Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” during the Tuesday performance night. Michael Sarver and Allision Iraheta joined Alexis Grace in the bottom three.

But because of the “judges’ save” Alexis Grace was given a change to sing again while the judges discussed whether she stays or not. The judges then agreed that she was good but was not good enough to save her from the elimination.

The Top ten finalists of American Idol Season 8 have been finally known with Alexis Grace’s elimation.The finalists who survived the elimination are Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Anoop Desai, Danny Gokey, Kris Allen, Lil Rounds, Matt Giraud, Megan Joy, Michael Sarver, and Scott MacIntyre.

American Idol winner Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis sang the song “I Told You So” during the results show.

For the second week of the finals, American Idol Top 11 performed songs made popular by the members of the Opry calling this week the “Grand Ole Opry week.” Country legend Randy Travis was this week’s mentor.

Michael Sarver opened the night with the song “Ain’t Goin’ Down Till The Sun Comes Up” which Paula liked saying that the genre suits him well. Randy loves the song choice but wasn’t sure if it showcased Michael’s great vocals. Kara enjoyed the performance but she thought that Michael missed some of the big notes. Simon commented that the performance was a bit clumsy and that he didn’t understand a single word from Michael’s performance.

Singing her own rendition of Patti Loveless’ song “Blame It on Your Heart,” Allison Iraheta came up next. Kara said that she’s getting better every week and she made the song her own. Paula suggested that Allison choose songs that would make her vulnerable; however, Paula thought that Allison’s performance was rock solid. Simon said that it seemed as if Allison was struggling to remember the lyrics. Randy described her performance to be “dope.”

“To Make You Feel My Love” was Kris Allen’s song choice for this week. Simon thought that his performance was terrific. On the other hand, Paula was pleasantly surprised by the performance. Randy and Kara loved the performance as well.

Lil Round’s sang “Independence Day” which the judges didn’t like much. Although this wasn’t Lil’s best performance, Kara gave her props for standing by her song choice. Paula commented that Lil shouldn’t have done the two verses. Simon said the song didn’t suit her. But, Randy said it was interesting.

The fan favorite Adam Lambert sang a very different version of “Ring of Fire” which wowed the audience. Kara said the performance was a little stranger but liked the “drama.” Paula commends Adam for being true to himself. Simon said the performance was indulgent rubbish. Randy said Adam sounded like Nine Inch Nail singing a country song.

Scott Macintyre sang “Wild Angels” while playing the piano. Paula was impressed with the performance but said that Scott needs to rely a little less on the piano. Simon thought that Scott isn’t picking the right songs. On the other hand, Kara said that Scott brings class and poise to the stage.

Randy didn’t like Alexis Grace’s rendition of “Jolene” saying that there were many pitch problems and arrangement didn’t work. Kara didn’t like the performance as well saying that Alexis lost her edge. Paula disagreed with the two saying that Alexis showed different sides of her voice. Simon said that the performance was “okay” and unoriginal.

Danny Gokey chose to sing Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take The Wheel.” Randy thought the performance was pitchy. Kara said that the first part of the performance wasn’t spectacular but halfway through he turned on the magic. Paula and Simon agreed that Danny’s performance was brilliant, but Simon hated Danny’s outfit.

Anoop Desai sang Willie Nelson’s “You Were Always On My Mind” which the judges really liked. Simon said that he went from zero to hero with the said performance. Paula was so proud of him for choosing a song that suits him well. Kara thought Anoop’s performance to be the best of the night. Randy said that Anoop proved that he could really sing.

The sick Megan Joy sang “Walking After Midnight.” The judges commended Megan for pulling off a great performance despite her sickness. The judges agreed with each other that Megan Joy picked the perfect song.

Last to perform that night was Matt Giraud who sang “So Small” by Carrie Underwood. Simon believes that Matt surpassed Danny Gokey tonight. Randy said that Matt’s performance is his favorite tonight. Paula commended Matt saying that he’s an authentic performer.

Tomorrow night, another Idol finalist is set to be sent home.

(UPDATE) A stampede erupted on the casting call of CW’s reality TV show “America’s Next Top Model” Saturday afternoon caused by an overheating car, the Daily News reported. Wannabe models ran for their lives after several people started yelling, “There’s a bomb!”

The authorities reported that six women were injured while two women and one man were arrested for inciting a riot.

On the other hand, planning errors committed by the “America’s Next Top Model” producers are being blamed by the Manhattan police to be the cause of the Saturday afternoon stampede.

“The producer of the show didn’t notify the NYPD, so there were no cops specifically assigned there,” a police official told the New York Daily News about the lack of police presence at the event. “They needed to alert the police before the event.”

On the other hand, host and executive producer of the show, Tyra Banks has reacted on the issue.

“To all the ‘Top Model’ hopefuls who were affected by the New York casting, we are doing everything we can to make sure that ALL the girls who weren’t seen, get an opportunity to audition — we’ll update you on our plans very soon. It is so important to me to redefine beauty, and make sure that everyone gets a fair chance to pursue their dream. I am beyond excited for Cycle 13; for the first time ever, young women 5′7″ and under have a shot at becoming ‘America’s Next Top Model’! I encourage each girl to come out ready to rock the runway and show off their fiercest pose. I’m rooting for all of you.” the host and executive producer of America’s Next Top Model said in a statement.

For the show’s 13th cycle, producers announced that they’re looking for candidates not taller than 5-feet-7. This would be the first time in history of the show that women under 5-feet-7 are allowed to audition. The casting call was canceled after the incident.

After “Iisa Pa Lamang,” actor Gabby Concepcion is set to join the cast of ABS-CBN’s hit primetime television series “May Bukas Pa” ABS-CBN.com confirmed the report. The actor started filming for the said TV series March 31 in Bacolor, Pampanga. He would play the role of a magician.

The actor admitted he missed working in ABS-CBN after his vacation in the US. In the meanwhile, there are reports coming up that Gabby Concepcion is to star with Lorna Tolentino in an ABS-CBN television series. Information regarding the new television series with Lorna Tolentino is yet to be determined.

Gabby will appear in the coming episodes of “May Bukas Pa.” In the previous episodes of “May Bukas Pa” several ABS-CBN stars have played guest roles in the series like John Estrada and Claudine Barretto.

Gary V Live at 25 on ABS-CBN's "Sunday's Best"

ABS-CBN’s “Sunday’s Best” will air Gary V’s silver anniversary concert entitled, “Gary V Live at 25” tonight, March 15, 2009.

It is the first time that Mr. Pure Energy has edited the concert in his home studio. He explained at what viewers will see tonight is not the whole concert.

“What they will see on Sunday, it’s not the whole concert. There are numbers that we had to remove, keep some numbers [and] edit some numbers. Pero I’m glad na mukhang flawless naman ang presentation. I’m really excited about it,” he added.

“Gary V Live at 25” was first staged on November 2008 and had a repeat run last February 2009 at the Araneta Coliseum. Gary V added that the two-hour TV special would include numbers from the November and February run of the concert.

“A lot of that was talking kasi. So, I took out a lot of the talking. I took out four numbers, but that would all be seen on the DVD,” said Gary.

A DVD of the concert will be release between April and May. The DVD will include special features – behind the scenes, interviews, commentaries, and trailer of upcoming DVDs.

Performances of Gary’s children, Gabby, Paolo and Kiana would also be shown as well as the number with Gary V and Martin Nievera.

“Cool Center – Hello It’s Me” is GMA Network’s new addition to its Saturday primetime line-up and is set to to air tomorrow, March 14, 2009 after Imbestigador. Comedians Anjo Yllana and Eugene Domingo would host the said show.

“Cool Center” is an hour-long TV program that follows a radio talk show format, which is the trend nowadays. Just by calling the program’s hotline, viewers can make new friends, seek love advice, voice opinions and even barter possessions.

The hosts would entertain calls from all over the country and lucky callers who go on-air will be asked to participate in the show’s numerous segments that are guaranteed to make the viewers alive and awake. The show is live and unscripted giving viewers unique episode each week. Celebrities and resource speakers will also be asked to join the hosts live.

After the results, host Ryan Seacrest announced a new twist to the show called the “judges’ save.” “Judges’ save,” allow the judges Simon, Kara, Randy and Paula to reverse elimination of a finalist who gets the lowest number of votes. The judges should decide unanimously. The “judges’ save” can only be used once per season and only weeks before the Top Five have been known. If the “save” is used, there shall be double elimination the week after. The “judges’ save” aims to avoid the instances where a deserving finalist gets eliminated because of low number of votes like what happened to Idol alumni Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, and Michael Johns.

Because of the “judges’ save” Jorge Nuñez and Jasmine Murray were given another chance to prove their talent and was asked to sing again. In the end, the judges turned down the two.

KC Concepcion and Piolo Pascual

After the success of the local adaptation of the Korean series, “My Girl”, ABS-CBN is set to make an adaptation of another Korean TV series, “Lovers in Paris” starring KC Concepcion (as Vivian) and Piolo Pascual (as Carlo).

ABS-CBN aired the said Korean television series a few years back. Since Tuesday, March 10, 2009, the cast and staff have been filming in Paris, France and would stay there for three weeks.

The local adaptation is promised to be loyal to the original series while introducing some local flavor to make it more “Pinoy.”

“May mga scenes na hindi naman po talaga namin goal na gayahin si Vivian.

“Kasi after all, it’s a remake pero sariling atin,” KC clarified.

KC had to cut her hair short and was asked not to wear make-up during filming for the role. She also watched the series in video as to familiarize herself with the series as well as her character. This would be the first time that KC Concepcion and Piolo Pascual will be working together. The daughter of Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion has nothing but praises for her co-star Piolo Pascual for being professional.

“Minsan maaga pa siya sa call time. ‘Yong ugali mismo, ‘yon ‘yong parang gusto kong makuha sa kanya,” she said

This would be the first time that KC would be doing a television series that would run for four months.

American Idol Top 13

Now that the Top 13 of American Idol Season 8 has been chosen, it’s time for the finalists to battle it out onstage, win the viewers’ vote and be the next American Idol. For the first week of the finals, finalists were asked to sing Michael Jackson hits calling this week the “Michael Jackson week”.

Lil Rounds opened the night with full energy singing the song “The Way You Make Me Feel.” Judges Paula Adbul, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi loved her performance while judge Simon Cowell finds it to be a little lazy.

Scott MacIntyre chose to sing Michael Jackson’s “not-so-obvious” song “Keep the Faith” while playing the piano. Randy finds Scott’s performance to be “safe” while Kara and Paula have nothing but praises for Scott. On the other hand, Simon hated the song choice [Scott’s song choice].

Singing “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)”, Danny Gokey impressed Paula saying that he’s on his way to the finals [finale]. Simon liked Danny’s performance tonight saying that Danny got great vocals but his dancing was hideous. Kara and Randy liked the performance as well.

“You Are Not Alone” is Michael Sarver’s song choice for this week. Simon said that he’s not the best singer in the competition but his passion and “heart” makes up for it.

Jasmine Muray sang “I’ll Be There”.

Judge Kara gave props to Kris Allen who sang “Remember the Time” for helping other Idol finalists prepare for the Michael Jackson week.

Allison Iraheta sang her own version of “Give it To Me” but struggled a bit towards the end of the song.

Judges think that “Beat It” is a bad song choice for Anoop Desai. Simon said that his performance was horrible and looked a bit stupid.

Jorge Nunez sang “Never Can Say Goodbye” but the judges didn’t like his performance. Megan Joy chose the song “Rockin’ Robin” and Simon said that it was a stupid song choice.

Fan favorite, Adam Lambert rocked the stage with “Black and White.”

Singing “Human Nature” while playing the piano, Matt Giraud impressed the judges.

Last to perform is Alexis Grace with the song “Dirty Diana” which Paula and Kara liked. However, Paula warned Alexis not to “oversing”.

Results would be out tomorrow night. Host Ryan Seacrest hinted that a big announcement would also be made tomorrow that is expected to change how things go for American Idol.

ABS-CBN through its Corporate Communications Head Bong Osorio has sent Brink Notes Entertainment Daily a copy of its official statement on the Maalala Mo Kaya’s “Blusa” episode aired last March 1, 2009 with Angel Locsin on the lead role.

In the said episode, Angel Locsin’s character graduated summa cum laude at UP Los Baños with a bachelor’s degree in AgriBusiness but had difficulty looking for a job and was forced to work as a nightclub dancer.

After the episode aired, UP alumni reacted negatively on the said life story shown on MMK. On the other hand, UP Los Baños officials already issued a statement saying that they do not have an alumna matching the life story presented on the March 1 episode of MMK. The UPLB officials asked ABS-CBN to set the record straight.

Here’s the full text of ABS-CBN’s statement on MMK’s “Blusa” episode:

“Storytelling in Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK) is always based on narratives sent to the program by people who want to share their stories. MMK decides to go into production of the chosen stories, ONLY after the letter sender has signed a waiver attesting to the authenticity of the story sent.

“MMK recognizes that a number of UPLB alumni are questioning the truthfulness of one letter sender who claims that her sister, the main character in “Blusa” essayed by Ms. Angel Locsin, was indeed a UPLB BS AgriBusiness, summa cum laude graduate, who could not find a job and ended up as a stripper.

“When MMK found out about the adverse reactions, the MMK production group went back to the letter sender to inform her of the issue raised and to re-verify her account. She reiterated that she stands by her story.

“Be that as it may, and after careful deliberation, MMK realizes that its writing and research pool may have been remiss in one thing—-verifying with UPLB the veracity of the indicated facts of the letter sender. Having said that, MMK sincerely apologizes for the oversight.

“MMK always aims for truth and excellence. This incident may have deviated from its tight norm, but rest assured that MMK will continue to serve its publics [sic] with utmost care and respect.”

GMA Network’s adaptation of the famous Korean drama “All About Eve” is set to premiere tonight, March 9, 2009 on GMA Telebabad. Sunshine Dizon plays the role of Erika Reyes while Iza Calzado plays the role of Nicole Gonzales. Erika and Nicole are rival reporters who are working on GMA Network. Mark Fernandez and Alfrad Vargas are also part of the cast.

Gil Tejada, Jr. directs the Philippine adaptation of “All About Eve” for television. Richard Gomez, Jean Garcia, Eula Valdez, Eric Quizon, Celia Rodriguez, Carmen Ronda, Gabby Eigenmann, Angel Aquino, Kempee de Leon, and Marky Lopez join the main casts of “All About Eve” as well.

It is official! On the Q&A article published by The Hollywood Reporter on March 5, 2009, ABC Entertainment Group President, Stephen McPherson has clarified that Ugly Betty will return.

“THR: What are your plans for “Ugly Betty”? Will it return in the fall, and will it stay on Thursdays?

“McPherson: “Ugly Betty” will return.”

Early this year, news about the show’s benching has been all over the place with fans and supporters speculating that the show will be axed and replaced by another show. Although the show will indeed have a break a couple of weeks from now, the assurance that Ugly Betty is returning is already great news.
