Lindsay Lohan, who turns 23 tomorrow, Thursday, July 2, 2009, received a present she would never forget. The “Mean Girls” star was paid $70,000 to host her very own birthday bash at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), her ex-girlfriend Samantha Ronson was not spotted on the event.

A Brink Notes Entertainment Daily source said that the venue gave Lindsay Lohan just for the actress to enjoy herself at the poolside event last Saturday, June 27, 2009. Lohan also posed for the photographers-slash-paparazzis.

The event at the hotel’s Wet Republic pool served as a promotion for Lindsay Lohan’s Sevin Nyne self-tanning mist. She changed bathing suits for five times and even dressed like Michael Jackson. The actress danced to Michael Jackson hits for the rest of the event.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque has advised Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao and his entourage to postpone their flight back to the Philippines as a safety measure against swine flu.

The boxing champion is scheduled to be back in the Philippines on Friday, May 8, 2009 after his victory against Britain’s Ricky Hatton. The Palace has already announced that Friday would be a “national day of celebration” for Pacquiao’s homecoming and victory over Hatton.

There were confirmed cases of H1N1 virus in Las Vegas where the Pacquiao-Hatton fight was held and Duque is hoping that Pacquiao and his entourage would “self-quarantine” to be sure they don’t have the virus. Duque also added that it would take five days for swine flu symptoms to appear.

The Department of Health has also said that “there were concerns that the motorcade, which was due to drive through Manila in celebration, could pose a risk of spreading the virus.”

No confirmed cases of swine flu have reported in the Philippines but there are some cases, which are under observation.

The National Historical Institute (NHI) of the Philippines has claimed Tuesday morning that singer Martin Nievera who sang the Philippine National Anthem during the Pacquiao-Hatton fight Sunday (Philippine time) violated the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines (Republic Act 8491).

It is stipulated in Republic Act 8491, Section 37 that “the rendition of the National Anthem, whether played or sung, shall be in accordance with the musical arrangement and composition of Julian Felipe.”

“Mali ang pagkanta niya. … dapat sinundan niya ang nakalagay sa batas,” Teddy Atienza, head of the Heraldry Division, National Historial Institute said in a radio interview Tuesday morning.

Atienza also quoted the Section 50 of same Republic Act that states: “Any person or juridical entity which violates any of the provisions of this Act shall, upon conviction, be punished by a fine of not less than Five thousand pesos (P5,000) nor more than Twenty thousand pesos (P20,000), or by imprisonment for not more than one (1) year, or both such fine and imprisonment, at the discretion of the court.”

It would be noticed that on the GMA broadcast of the Pacquiao-Hatton fight, the logo of the National Historical Institute with the caption “Approved by the National Historical Institute” was flashed after Nievera sang the Philippine National Anthem, which implies that the Institute approved Nievera’s version.

Martin Nievera was chosen by Manny Pacquiao to sing the national anthem in his fight with Ricky Hatton and was reported here in Brink Notes Entertainment Daily last April 8, 2009.

Nievera said that Pacquiao asked him to sing the anthem not in a slow tempo but in a march like tempo.

“Well, it’s going to be very hard for me to apologize for something that I am not sorry for. I did not ask to do the anthem. Manny Pacquiao himself asked me to sing the national anthem,” Nievera said in a statement.

Filipino Boxing Champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao won against Ricky “Hitman” Hatton by means of technical knockout in the second round of their fight for the IBO light welterweight title Saturday night (Sunday, Manila time) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During the first round, Pacquiao has knocked Hatton down twice. While in the final seconds of the second round, Pacquiao finished Hatton with an intense left hand that left the latter lying on his back and motionless. Doctors rushed to Hatton as Pacquiao’s corner celebrated victory.

Pacquiao made history by taking titles in different weight class.

Singer Martin Nievera sang the Philippine National Anthem before the fight, which is attended by big personalities including Oscar de la Hoya, Jack Nicholson and Mariah Carey.

Filipino singer Martin Nievera was chosen by Manny Pacquiao to sing the Philippine National Anthem in his upcoming fight with Ricky Hatton on May 2 (May 3 Philippine Time).

Pacquiao announced his pick on GMA Network’s primetime newscast, 24 ORAS.

The fight dubbed as “The Battle of East vs. West” will be happening at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

World boxing champion Pacquiao has also considered international renowned singer Lea Salonga to sing the national anthem.

During Pacquiao’s previous fights, it is standard that female singers are asked to lead the Philippine National Anthem. Karylle, Ciara Sotto, Nicole Angela Judalena, Kyla and Geneva Cruz were some of the female singers who lead the national anthem on his previous fights.

GMA Network will broadcast the May 2 Pacquiao-Hatton fight in the Philippines.
