Few weeks after the judges saved him from elimination, American Idol finalist Matt Giraud finally said goodbye Wednesday night (Thursday, Philippine time).

Matt who sang “My Funny Valentine” during the performance night got mixed reviews from the judges. Randy Jackson described the performance to be “pitchy.” Kara DioGuardi felt that Matt isn’t emotionally committed to the song. But, Paula Abdul loved the performance. Meanwhile, Simon Cowell said that the performance was absolutely brilliant.

Forty-seven million votes were cast but Giraud got the lowest. What shocked the audience is that Adam Lambert was in the bottom two with Matt, which I think is a wake up call for his fans not to be complacent but to vote every week even how great his performance is.

Natalie Cole performed on the results show with American Idol past winner Taylor Hicks. This week’s mentor, Jamie Foxx also performed his new song “Blame It”

American Idol finalists explored the standards from the Rat Pack era with Jamie Foxx as their mentor.

Kris Allen was the first to sing during the performance who sang “The Way You Look Tonight.” Randy thought it was Kris Allen’s best performance to date. Kara said that Kris set the standards high that night. Paula said that Kris turned from the boy-next-door image to handsome. Simon described the performance to be a little bit “wet.”

Singing “Someone to Watch Over Me” is Allison Iraheta, which the judges all agreed to be a great performance. Randy said that Allison sounded like Pink “with more octaves.” Kara said the performance would be enough to get her to the finals. Paula thought that Allison delivered an innocent performance.

“My Funny Valentine” is Matt Giraud’s song choice for this week. Randy described the performance to be pitchy. Kara felt that Matt isn’t emotionally committed to the song. But, Paula loved the performance. Meanwhile, Simon said that the performance was absolutely brilliant.

Danny Gokey performed “Come Rain or Come Shine,” which impressed the Idol judges. Randy said that Danny could have an album out of the era and still win. Kara said that it was the most creative that Danny has ever been with a melody. Simon said that the performance was outstanding.

Adam Lambert was the last to perform with the song “Feeling Good.” Randy described the performance to be too “theatrical.” Kara said that her jaw drops every time Adam performs. Paula said that words cannot describe Adam. Simon feels that Adam is determined to win and entertain.

Two of the seven American Idol finalists would be sent home on the results show because judges chose to save Matt Giraud from elimination last week; hence, the double elimination this week.

This week, Idol finalists were asked to sing “disco hits.”

Lil Rounds opened the “disco night” with the song “I’m Every Woman.” Randy thought the performance sounded wild and failed to show her “artist side.” Simon predicted that this would Lil’s last week on the show. He also said that there was no originality on her performance and was a mess.

Kris Allen’s version of “She Works Hard for the Money” impressed the judges because of its originality. Kara thought that the risk Kris took with the song’s arrangement really paid off. While Paula said that the arrangement has a Santana feel to it. Simon thought the performance was not karaoke, original and fantastic. Randy believes that Kris has proven that he is ready for the big time.

Danny Gokey performed “September,” which the judges thought to be a good performance. Randy thought that the song worked for Danny. Kara said that Danny’s pitch is right on. Paula said that Danny’s voice is one of the sexiest voices she has heard. Simon thought the performance was good but not special.

Allison Iraheta’s version of “Hot Stuff” impressed the judges but some didn’t like the song’s arrangement. Randy said that Allison is one the best singers in the competition. Kara said that Allison picked the right song but the arrangement failed. Paula said that Allison is authentic and hit the last note “off the chart.” Simon thought it was a brilliant performance.

“If I Can’t Have You” is Adam Lambert’s song choice for this week. Kara said Adam’s performance was brilliant. Randy thinks that Adam is ready and that he has it majorly going on. Paula liked that Adam didn’t make the disco song cliche?. Simon liked that Adam did something that no one is expecting.

Matt Giraud sang “Stayin’ Alive” but Randy and Simon didn’t like the performance. Randy didn’t like the arrangement but said that Matt can really sing. Kara commented that Matt brought back the disco feel and thought that Matt gave a “solid” performance. Paula said that Matt saved his life on the show. Simon thought the performance was a little bit desperate.

Anoop Desai was the last to perform with the song “Dim All the Lights.” Randy said that Anoop can really sing but said that he didn’t love the song’s arrangement. Kara said that Anoop’s last two performances were his best. Paula said that Anoop’s vocals are magical and that he looked fantastic. But, Simon said the performance was mediocre and that it was a horrible version of the song.

American Idol judges have decided to use their “save” when host Ryan Seacrest announced during the Wednesday results show (Thursday Philippine time) that finalist Matt Giraud received the lowest number of votes.

Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai joined Matt Giraud in the bottom three.

American Idol alumna Jennifer Hudson performed “If This Isn’t Love” while Miley Cyrus sang her latest song “The Climb.”

Saving Matt Giraud from elimination means only two things – two finalists will be sent home next week, and judges can’t use the save anymore. Judge Simon Cowell announced that next week is “disco week.”

Remaining 7 finalists of the hit Fox show American Idol sang popular movie theme songs on the Tuesday performance night (Wednesday Philippine time). Quentin Tarantino made an appearance as the finalists’ mentor.

Host Ryan Seacrest has announced that only two judges will give comments after each performance, instead of four to save airtime.

Allison Iraheta opened the performance with the song “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing.” Judge Paula and Simon liked the performance. Steven Van Zandt who was at the audience and gave Iraheta a standing ovation.

“Everything I Do, I Do It For You” was Anoop Desai’s song choice for this week. Randy congratulated Anoop saying that he has found his “zone.” Kara applauded Anoop for “adding soul” into the performance.

Adam Lambert sang Steppenwolf’s “Born to be Wild” which Paula saying, “Take it all in, my dear.” The reason, Adam that you’re shaking up this whole competition is that you dare to dance in the path of greatness. However, Simon said that although the performance was great vocally, it was like watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Matt Giraud sang “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?” while playing the piano. Randy thought Giraud over sung the song. Kara agreed with Randy.

Singing “Endless Love” this week is Danny Gokey. Paula thought the performance was beautiful while Simon was disappointed with the arrangement of the song.

“Falling Slowly” is Kris Allen’s song choice. Randy thought the performance was pitchy all the way. Kara said it was an obscure song.

Last to sing that night was Lil Rounds with the song “The Rose.” Paula emphasized the song’s beautiful lyrics, but Simon said, You are not the artist I believe we met seven or eight weeks ago.”

American Idol Top 8 finalists sang songs from the year they were born on the Tuesday performance night.

Adam Lambert, born in 1982 sang “Mad World,”which impressed the judges. Simon Cowell even gave Adam a standing ovation.

Matt Giraud who was born in 1985 sang “Part-time Lover.” Randy Jackson said that his performance is one of the best that night, vocally. Kara called it “incredible” while Paula thought that performance deserved a standing ovation. Simon said that his performance this week was a million times better than last week.

“I Can’t Make You Love Me” is Allison Iraheta’s song choice for this week (born in 1992). Paula loved the “tenderness” that Allison put into the song. Simon thought the performance was good. Randy compared Allison with American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson. Kara commended Allison for making the song sound like “young.”

Scott MacIntyre (born in 1985) sang “The Search is Over.” Kara appreciated Scott playing the guitar but said that he has some off moments. Paula admired Scott’s effort to step away from the piano; but said that some high notes sounded rough. Simon thought that Scott should go back to the piano next week. Randy said that the performance didn’t have a “star quality.”

Kris Allen (born in 1985) sang “All She Wants to Do is Dance.” Kara was happy that Kris Allen picked an upbeat song. Paula said that Kris Allen is one of the “most likable” contestants. But, Simon said that the performance was indulgent, boring and forgettable. Randy thought that the arrangement was a little self-indulgent.

“Stand By Me” is Danny Gokey’s (born in 1980) song choice for this week. Randy didn’t like the arrangement that much. Kara said that Danny made it a three level performance, and he made the song his own. Paula said that Danny set the bar really high that night.

Anoop Desai (born in 1986) performed “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper, which the judges praised. But, Simon said that Anoop is like a singing yo-yo.

Lil Rounds (born in 1984) failed to impress the judges with her performance of “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” Simon said that Lil is a second- or third-rate version of Tina Turner.

On the Wednesday results night, another finalist would be sent home unless the judges decided to use their “save.”

Idol finalists were asked to sing popular downloads on the iTunes Music Store. This week’s theme gave the finalists a chance to be a little more current – but not that current.

Anoop Desai opened the Tuesday performance night (Wednesday night in the Philippines) with Usher’s “Caught Up.” Randy commended Anoop’s vocals but said that it wasn’t the right song for him. Kara commented that it was “like a bunch of frat guys dared you to get up and sing Usher.” Paula said that Anoop should work on his showmanship but praised his cool vocals. Simon thought that Anoop came off like a wannabe, and his performance was a complete and utter mess.

Megan Joy’s rendition of “Turn Your Lights Down Low” failed to please the judges. Kara said that she likes Megan, but it wasn’t the right song for her. Kara also added that Megan might be in trouble. Paula said that Megan should dig deeper and surprise them. Simon said that the things they liked about Megan are disappearing and described Megan’s performance as boring, indulgent and monotonous. Randy felt that he was watching a paint dry.

“What Hurts The Most” is Danny Gokey’s song choice for this week. Paula said that it is the kind of performance that she would listen to over and over. Simon thought that it was Danny’s best performance of the season. Randy felt that it was Danny who started the show. Kara said that Danny’s performance gave her goosebumps.

Allison Iraheta goes up the stage and sang “Don’t Speak,” a song that reminds me of my childhood. Randy said that Allison was a little ahead of the beat but loved that she played the guitar. Kara thought that the performance was good but was a little forced. Paula praised Allison’s delivery and intonation saying that they’re “masterful.” Simon commented that Allison’s outfit looked straight out of the Addams Family.

Scott MacIntyre accompanied himself on the piano again while singing “Just The Way You Are.” Kara commended Scott’s smart song choice and said that the performance was moving. Paula said that she’s so proud of him. Simon called Scott’s performance “the best.”

Matt Giraud’s rendition of “You Found Me” failed to impress the judges. Paula said that Matt failed to show any of the qualities they liked about him. Simon commented that Matt is becoming different people just to stay in the competition. Randy blamed Matt’s wrong song choice. Kara said that Matt is going from the rock side of pop and the R&B side of pop.

Celine Dion’s “I Surrender” is Lil Rounds’ song choice for this week. Randy said that Lil sang the song really, really well. Kara was surprised by how Lil sang the song effortlessly. But, Paula said that she didn’t want to see an adult contemporary Lil. Simon described Lil’s performance to be “old-fashioned.”

“Play That Funky Music” is Adam Lambert’s song choice for this week. Paula said that Adam is pure genius. Simon said that the performance was original but not as good as last week’s performance. Randy said that Adam’s in the star zone. While Kara said that it was like Studio 57.
Kris Allen closed the night with the song “Ain’t No Sunshine,” which the judges all liked. Randy said that Kris Allen’s performance was creative and cool. Kara said “that is artisty!” Paula said that Kris Allen made the 30-year-old song sound like a new one. While Simon said that Kris’ performance tonight was his best so far.

Tomorrow night, we would all find out whether an Idol will be sent home or the judges would use their “save.” Who will be booted tomorrow? I think it would be either Matt or Megan Joy.

Michael Sarver who sang “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg” during the performance show is the latest American Idol finalist to be sent home after getting the lowest number of votes. Matt Giraud and Scott MacIntyre joined Michael Sarver in the bottom three.

Although Michael was asked to sing for another time to prove his talent, judge Simon decided not to use the “judges’ save” and said that he’s really going home.

The judges all agreed during the performance show that Michael picked the wrong song. Paula said that some of the notes didn’t work out for him. While Kara said that Michael should prove that he’s not just a singer but also an artist.

Ruben Studdard, Joss Stone, Smokey Robinson and Steview Wonder performed on the Idol results show.

Despite Michael being sent home, he would be joining the other nine Idol finalists in the American Idol tour.
