Two American Idol finalists were sent home instead of one Wednesday night. Jasmine and Murray who sang “I’ll Be There” and Jorge Nuñez who sang “Never Can Say Goodbye” were the firsts to be sent home.

After the results, host Ryan Seacrest announced a new twist to the show called the “judges’ save.” “Judges’ save,” allow the judges Simon, Kara, Randy and Paula to reverse elimination of a finalist who gets the lowest number of votes. The judges should decide unanimously. The “judges’ save” can only be used once per season and only weeks before the Top Five have been known. If the “save” is used, there shall be double elimination the week after. The “judges’ save” aims to avoid the instances where a deserving finalist gets eliminated because of low number of votes like what happened to Idol alumni Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, and Michael Johns.

Because of the “judges’ save” Jorge Nuñez and Jasmine Murray were given another chance to prove their talent and was asked to sing again. In the end, the judges turned down the two.

Kanye West and Kelly Clarkson performed during the results night.
